   Caleb was phenomenal. Unobtrusive, but still very present. If you want to enjoy your meal without feeling rushed, come early. Coursing was perfect after we asked to slow it down. Value has slightly declined, but Umi will always be a favorite in Atlanta. A5 Wagyu Roll was a complete miss this time, but everything else was phenomenal. The Otoro Caviar is a must try!

   THIS IS NOT A 4-STAR REVIEW - 3 AT BEST. APP WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO CHANGE THE INCORRECT 4-STAR DESIGNATION. UMI has declined in every aspect measured since there last - in February 2024. UMI has been in my Top 5 list since it opened. Now, I doubt that i will return to umi. Specifics; (1) Had to wait 35 minutes for table - even though made reservation and confirmed in advance. (2) Service inconsistent from start to finish. Very good main server. Others dismissive. Example - we asked for small light for table b/c too dark to see menu. Person (Host?) response: “No, I don’t think we can do that.” Huh? (Another person, possibly a manager, brought a candle quickly.) (3) Food quality not fine dining - no better than average. Caviar very disappointing quality. One of my favorite mains, the black cod, tasted like its only prep was marination in grocery-store sauce. (4) Noise level unacceptable. Difficult to have conversation at tiny table for two. (5) Ambiance similar to any B- sushi restaurant. (5) Cost not commensurate with quality. We do fine dining a lot and expect to pay top dollar for top quality. UMI’s cost was about double owhat it should have been.

   Although Umi’s food and service is always amazing, I’m starting to see a pattern with coming in at the time of our reservation and still having to wait sometimes up to 45mins for our table. I’m not sure what the issue may be but this is the third time we’ve arrived on time and still had to wait. Understandable if we were only waiting for about 5 mins but that’s not always the case.

   We fly a lot into Atlanta. Always looking for something new. First time trying Umi. Ambience was upscale. Pricey for what you get. A’la Cart style. The black cod was amazing. Spider Roll, I’ve had so much better. Felt very very rushed. Was told at reservation that we would only have one hour and thirty minute seat time. We had apps, dinner, coffee all within 45 mins. Cod came out which sat getting cold as we tried to finish our salads. Sushi came out as we tried to finish our cod. It will be a one and done in our book. I do not see going a second time.

   Honestly, extremely overrated. Crispy rice was stale.. everyone says that it’s the “freshest sushi” in ATL yet my food came out 30 seconds after I ordered it. Felt like I was being rushed to get out of there.

   Very cold and noisy, uncomfortable chairs, too long service, unable to make the proper mocktails. This is a good place for young or simple people. We were expecting the different experience for our anniversary of 15 years. We should go to Atlas and spend $600 there. It was our check without alcohol.
