This place has fallen so far from grace. Complete pandemonium upon arrival. The equivalent of a coach load of diners crammed into the foyer and an officious front of house member huffing and harassed. Not a smile to be had by single staff member, even the Christmas tree above the clock seemed depressed. Shunted to the cafe to await a table, we ordered a £90 bottle of wine only to be quizzed as to why we were there by a sweaty waiter who seemed oblivious to the chaos two metres away at the front desk. Half an hour later, we enquired about the likelihood of getting our table, to be met with a blank stare, then traipsed, Basil Fawlty style, towards a bleak table in the near corner. Our wine was lost, the waiter kept calling us “dears” thickly and with some irony, and the service was scant and perfunctory. Food was slapped down, condiments elusive and our repeated requests for water ignored. To top it all, when we finally managed to order dessert and cocktails, we were told by a charming chap tapping his watch (an hour and twenty minutes into the meal), that they needed the table back. When I pointed out that we had been seated forty minutes late, I was allowed a further thirty mins to finish the meal by a graceless spiv. £150 a head and booted out the door, Merry Christmas. Once a neighbourhood favourite, we shan’t bother again. How very far they have fallen since the departure of the great JK.

We had a wonderful experience at The Wolseley! I don’t usually write reviews, but the restaurant was very busy and we had a very tight time window to make the theatre. Our waiter did a fantastic job to bring us our supper and dessert with plenty of time to spare, and it was all delicious, especially the fish cakes and cheesecake. Thank you, we’ll be back!

Booked a table, turned up, told to wait 1 min for table prep, ended up waiting almost 10 mins, others who came after got seated straight away. Table was opposite food counter so busy and noisy. No side plates when given bread and butter. Fillet that I ordered was tiny, no steak knife, had to ask for it. Seemed to try and rush me out. Decor was poor in terms of xmas. Not what I had expected from a well established restaurant.

Disappointing and not to the standard it used to be. When we arrived it was very chaotic with a long queue of people all waiting to confirm their booking. We had a very long wait for our table in addition, followed by a very disjointed service - there didn’t seem to be enough staff to adequately serve the tables. We had the afternoon tea menu and the food was very average - sandwiches were ok at best, the scones were passable and cakes disappointing. Sadly the quality seems to have gone downhill. The atmosphere was great though and the decor is still very impressive.
