The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

My son has fond memories of going to the Walnut Room with his grandmother. Since she has died, we go once a year to relive the wonderful time he shared with his Gramma Joan.

Loved visiting The Walnut Room today for my friend's 75th birthday. She used to work at Marshall Field's while in High School and my Mother. also worked there for 48 years . Needless to say, both of us spent many happy hours with our mothers shopping & dining at all their restaurants. I thought the food today was delicious & a great value. We appreciated that there were still some of the classics on the menu. Our waiter was superb & we had a very nice table. However, we both felt sad to see that there were so few customers in the restaurant and the store. Understandably it is a different time & people have very different shopping habits from those of our youth. We still had a wonderful time taking the Marshall Field's tour and lunching. The day brought back many happy memories.

Another great late lunch at the Walnut Room. After making a return from some purchases online , it is always a solid choice for a quick meal and a glass of wine.

Pot pie and salad were excellent as always. Salad dressing was exceptional. Bread pudding was good but the Frango Ice Cream Pie was better.
