The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

You honestly can’t go wrong with the walnut room at the holidays! We had a great table right by the tree, and the food was as delicious as always! Well done.

This was my family and I’s first time visiting the Walnut Room and we had the most magical experience ever! We were a party of 8 during the last seating of the night, which worked out perfectly for taking family pictures in front of the tree. Given the size of our party, we ordered quite a bit from the menu, and everything tasted amazing. Special thanks to Alexander “Lex” and the whole staff for the fabulous service and scrumptious food. Lex was patient and attentive throughout the entire evening, and even offered to take our family pictures. We look forward to returning in the near future.

Our server, Stef, was amazing and funny. She gave good suggestions and let us know about other events hosted in The Walnut Room. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. We had the mushroom ravioli with added chicken, the Asiago chicken and short ribs. The frango cheesecake and ice cream pie were good, the Yule log left something to be desired. All in all a great visit and we will be back

Revisiting a holiday tradition with dinner at the Walnut Room with another generation. Food was great and nostalgic (and a great value), the beautiful Walnut Room stands alone, the cool wine bar, all on top of the giant tree and the fairy granting wishes at your table. Our server Paul was very attentive, quick, and an overall great server. It was a fun way to cap off the holidays.

Fun experience for family. Extra staff makes for efficiency. Order the pot pie, and the Franco dessert - don’t miss it!

Get the pot pie and Frango cheesecake and bask in the history of a recipe from 1890.

The food is so-so. Visit here during the holidays for the experience of seeing the tree and the ambiance. A photographer can take your photo by the tree for a fee to purchase the photos. No purchase required for a complimentary postcard sized photo. A princess stops by your table and asks you if you want to make a wish. Always fun to try at least once.
