Really disappointing. This is our second year of Teddy Bear Tea and our daughter looks forward to this experience during the holiday season all year. Our scheduled time was 1:45 and we were a few minutes late due to parking, which wasn’t an issue, we called in and were told it was okay- when we arrived, there were multiple parties waiting to be seated. The wait however to be seated was near 20-30 minutes. There was no candy bar for the kids to make their own candy bags like last year and no special gifts that were advertised (teddy bears) were given to any children that I saw during our session. There were lots tables of adults, so I imagine they combined regular afternoon tea with Teddy bear tea, so there simply wasn’t enough staff to clear tables and serve guests, which is probably why they were so behind, even the hosts were helping to clean and set tables. The only highlight was that the funds go towards supporting the Children’s National Hospital, which is still a win.

Fantastic experience for the kiddos! The only item that could potentially improve is the balance of savory to sweet - there was one tier of savory and two tiers of sweet + scones. We were all on a sugar high after. But otherwise 10/10!

Of course you pay a lot for a simple breakfast, but valet parking is helpful and service is terrific.

Overall it was just ok. While the food was tasty for the adult portion, the peanut butter and jelly/ grilled cheese was mediocre at best for the kids portion. There were far more sweets than savory (we prefer a 50/50) and the server never came to our table to tell us what was on the trays like they did for everyone else around us. The server couldn’t tell us anything about the tea selection when asked. We read there would be entertainment via the Washingtonian magazine article but there wasn’t…just Santa and no one ever told us there was a hot chocolate bar so we saw that at the end when we were walking out and my daughter was totally disappointed in that. Everyone next to us got bears but the lady comes up to my table hands my daughter a bear and then looks at me and says “bears are just for kids” with no prior communication or ask from me. I didn’t want one anyways but I thought that was kind of rude and out of pocket for no reason. The two men next to us on a date both got bears and so did the mother and daughter on the other side. So it’s definitely not worth the price for a regular season tea, at least the money goes to charity for this holiday one. The redeeming value came from my company whom I love spending time with.

The tea itself and service were excellent. The savoury components were well balanced and delicious. The sweet components were hit or miss. Some were overwhelmingly sweet. The clotted cream was closer to a chantilly or whipped cream than a true clotted cream. However the scones and the jam were delicious. The ambience was also a bit mundane. Overall, the experience satisfied a craving, but did not match the expectations based on price.
