The original Reata Restaurant located in the scenic Davis Mountains of west Texas offers the same fine dining and Legendary Texas Cuisine you can find at the Fort Worth location. Alpine, home to Sul Ross State University is near Texas tourist destination Big Bend National Park and the towns of Marathon, Fort Davis and Lajitas. Alpine is also a short drive from Marfa, Texas renowned both for the mysterious Marfa Lights and Donald Judd's Chinati Foundation. Reata, named after the legendary ranch in the James Dean classic movie, "Giant", which was filmed in nearby Marfa, boasts the same high quality Southwestern dining you can find in Fort Worth. This is not food for the faint of heart, from Chicken Fried Steak to Calf Fries or the Pepper Crusted Tenderloin and Cowboy Rib Eye Steak, this is a dining experience not to miss.

I've eaten at Reata a lot of times over the years and never had an issue. This time was the exception. I had reservations for 7:30 and they were not prepared, watched another couple come in a little while later that said they had reservations and there was not a table prepared for them either. Awesome food, awesome service, great atmosphere. Just needs a little work on reservations.

It did not live up to the hype. The service was great! Andy took excellent care and attention. However, the steak was undercooked to order and the other entrees were cold. Overall experience was underwhelming for all of the build up.

Ambiance is nice, but we were seated at a table right by the entrance, so it was distracting and not pleasant to have people coming in and out throughout the meal. The appetizers were good and 2 shared orders could make a meal. The chicken and shrimp on the Pasta Alfredo was dry and overcooked. Portion of pasta was huge; enough for 2 lunches the next few days. Next time I will sit in the bar area. The mural on the outside wall was beautiful and it was much quieter.

We enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere of the restaurant. We were particularly appreciative of Sergio - he was kind, pleasant, helpful and attentive. I don’t think our experience would have been as good without him. We also appreciate the brief conversations with the owner or manager of the evening.

We had a wonderful evening! We are visiting but made reservations to be safe (highly recommend). We were told that if you don’t have reservations, it is hard to get in on the weekend. We arrived at 5:00. Our waiter was fabulous! He is a student at Sul Ross University. Very attentive to our needs. The food was delicious! Definitely recommend!

We love Reata! The food is delicious and the variety of offerings has something for everyone. There is a new manager and he was very attentive and checking on diners through the evening. The servings are large so no one will leave hungry. The chicken fried chicken was so good! The bacon wrapped shrimp was a tad over done, but still a great choice. The onion rings were a hit at our table and disappeared quickly.

I’ve been going to the Reata for years. Food is always excellent. This last visit was disappointing, Server did not check with me but only one time during my meal. I pushed my plate away and my empty drink glass sat there. Was never asked if I needed another drink or if I wanted a dessert. Had to ask for a Togo box after 20 min of sitting there. Then took my server 10-15 min to bring the box and my check. Meanwhile the bartender where I was sitting spent all evening talking only to the two people at the bar. Not once did she look up to see if anyone or myself sitting at the tables in the bar might need a drink.

We were visiting Alpine for a weekend anniversary getaway and decided to try Reata for dinner. It was amazing!! They had a large wedding party so the kitchen was extremely busy but our server kept us updated on everything and the experience was so wonderful that we didn’t even mind the wait at all! We ordered the calf fries for our appetizer and they were amazing!! They came out piping hot and were delicious! I had the steak tacos and they were extraordinary!! The steak was so tender and the sun-dried tomato cream sauce was so delicious! My husband had the stuffed poblano pepper and he said it was amazing!! We loved everything about this place and I cannot wait to visit again!
