The food at Willie Mae's was excellent! Most of our table enjoyed the fried chicken and it was some of the best we've tasted! Cocktails were creative and good too, although the time they took to be made seemed a bit long as we ordered them first and they did not come out until after we were eating salads/apps. Service was friendly and attentive. We had wanted to have our party of 8 seated together but I was told on the phone when trying to inquire about a reservation that the max table size was for 6. Outside of our group of 8, there were maybe 6 other individuals dining in the restaurant and tables could have been easily slid together (w/o blocking aisles) to accommodate a larger group being able to sit together. We had a great meal and would recommend going, but it was very empty (for how highly rated they are) and dimly lit in the restaurant and in that respect, the atmosphere was a bit of a miss for me.

I've been a Willie Mae's customer for years, and this was my 2nd time at the new location on Baronne. We had a 7:30 reservation on a Sunday night, and I had 2 friends in town to whom I'd raved about the fried chicken. When we walked in, it was quiet, with only two other tables of diners. Still, even with at least 5 visible staff members, it took a long time for a server to come take our drinks order. We ordered drinks and our meals all at once—3 different orders of the quarter fried chicken. The food came out literally within 5 minutes. I was dubious about how fast it came out but we were hungry. As soon as I bit into my chicken breast, I could tell it had been sitting out on a heater for a while; it was dry and greasy. My friends' orders (dark meat) were the same. When I complained to the waiter, he sheepishly admitted that they weren't recently fried, that one of the chefs had left, and I was the 2nd customer to complain that night. He did put in a new order that would take 9 minutes, and when it came, it was indeed fresh and hot, like it should be—but there was only 1 chicken breast, 1 thigh, and 1 wing—hardly equivalent to our original orders. He said that was the last the kitchen would fry. By 8:30, they were already setting up chairs on tables and rushing us out. Don't take a 7:30 reservation if you plan to close an hour later! Lastly, we asked our server to split the bill evenly three ways—but one of us was charged $15, the other $30, and the third, $45. We worked it out between ourselves, but I am NEVER going back to this location. I hope when the original Scotch House in the Tremé reopens, it will be like the old days. But in the meantime, this location is super sketchy. This is mostly a management issue, but even the time I went before, while the food and our server was friendly, it took a long time for her to take our order.

Our first visit to this fabulous restaurant ‼️ It did not disappoint and all the food was outstanding 👌. We both ordered a chicken meal; my side was mac-n-cheese and my husband's side was red beans and rice ‼️ Both sides were unbelievably great. Service was top notch, great restaurant setting and we ate at an earlier hour so there wasn't a crowd. Perfect all around.

Food is quality and quantity at a very reasonable price. Authentic southern food. Place is a tad small for the popularity of this place so reservations although helpful, will not guarantee being seated within the first 10-15 minutes

Some of the best darn food I have had in years. The fried chicken, gumbo, potato salad and corn bread was so good. Service was good as well but be prepared to wait on your food since it is fresh.

Food was excellent. Reasonable prices. All the staff were very pleasant. Service was good - it was very busy, so just a little bit slow, but still good. Will definitely go back.

Chicken is amazing!! They are still working out a few things. Person sitting tables seemed lost. Had to wait 20 minutes and had reservations. Had come back because night before ran out of chicken and we wanted to try!! But staff friendly and helpful. Food was perfect!
