Whiskey by John Howie is the Eastside’s whiskey and craft cocktail destination for guests 21+ years old. The global selection of rare and well done whiskies has been thoroughly collected for the curious to the connoisseur by Whiskey’s in house curator, Tim Lodahl. The unique menu of delightful bar bites features new and favorite tastes crafted by proprietor John Howie and executive chef Jed Laprade.
Whiskey by John Howie is available for private events. This 1,420 square foot space - which can accommodate up to 84 people for private events - features rich, dark woods complemented by dark brick and gold accents that give the room a comfortable, stylish feel. Hundreds of rare and sought after whiskey titles elegantly adorn the main wall, just above Whiskey’s open kitchen space. John Howie Catering offers a diverse range of chef-designed specialty menus that can be customized to the unique needs and style of each event.

Great atmosphere. Food was very good, excep the cheesecake was a little dry. Superb service. Go on a weekday during 5-6:30 for Happy Hour.

We love the vibe of John Howie Whiskey. The apple salad was delicious and we loved the nachos, hot chicken and truffle fries. The Manhattan was so smooth. One of our favorite date night spots.

When first booking the reservation, I didn’t know there were two different venues. Whiskey by John Howie and John Howie Steak. Whiskey by John Howie is has a more intimate setting and the menu is slightly different than its counterpart. However the steak options are the same. We had the USDA Filet Mignon and I have been ruined by any other steak following that experience! So render and flavorful, just melts in your mouth! The vegetable and potato sides are meant to share (didn’t know that either). It is a high $$$$ but worth it. Next time it’s John Howie Steak to compare!

Ambience and food were incredible! We both got the cheeseburger and it was honestly the best burger we’ve ever had! Our server was so lovely and made our anniversary dinner extra lovely by giving us a chocolate volcano cake to celebrate. Since it was a busier night as it was NYE, we did have to wait a bit past our reservation time but everything else made up for it. Will definitely return!

It was OK. Nice that the John Howie dinner menu is available although the ambience does not have warmth that is expected with a John Howie restaurant. —————————— Hi Tim, Happy New Year! Thank you for your reply. John Howie Steak and Seastar are my top choices for both personal and business dinners. I've reserved meals for 1-2 people and private rooms for group dinners at both. The service and ambiance are superb. However, my first visit to Whiskey didn't meet my expectations on either front. What is the best number for me to dial and provide specifics?

The food, service and ambience were fine. Being a John Howie restaurant, we weren’t surprised by the high prices. Two cocktails, two starters, two steaks with no sides, and two glasses of wine were almost $300. We were surprised, however, at the 20% service charge on the bill that goes entirely to John Howie. Their explanation was that they pay their staff well and give them benefits. There was a typical place for a tip on the check. Had we added a typical 20% tip, we would have paid over $100 in add-ons plus $35 tax which included tax on the service charge. This certainly put a damper on our enthusiasm for this restaurant. $400+ for the above listed food is certainly not worth it.

We are usally very pleased. Last night however my food took do long to come that my table guests had already finished their meals before mine arrived. We were comped a couple of drinks for the trouble. But this is just something that should be asdressed as its not the first time its happened to us. Otherwise the food was wonderful as always.
