Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Walker's Exchange offers a mixed dining experience with standout moments. Guests praise the "wonderful Thanksgiving meal" and "very good service," highlighting large, delicious portions. The buffet variety impresses, while "caramelized Brussels sprouts" and "fried green tomatoes" receive specific mentions. However, service inconsistencies and reservation issues can affect the overall experience.

The food was okay at best. The best thing was the omelet. Not nearly as good as it used to be to be. Very disappointing. Service was okay. The coffee was never hot. If we come again we’ll order off the menu and hope for the best.

This was the second time in 2 years I tried to eat there that was a fiasco. First time was for breakfast and they closed up 30 minutes early that day as “there weren’t a lot here eating on the buffet.” So no breakfast. Second time I made a reservation for dinner and got there 15 minutes early. We were seated immediately as there were lots of tables open and no one in line waiting. Our order was taken, a hamburger, cup of soup, side salad and decaf hot coffee. After 30 minutes the coffee arrived cold in the mug. After 45 minutes our waiter came out and said the kitchen was behind and he didn’t know when our food would be out. I asked for the check for the coffee and to cancel the food order. Another long wait and the waiter said the manager would bring me the ticket for the coffee. And we continued to wait. And wait. Finally as I was pulling out a $10 bill to leave for on the table the waiter asked if the manager had been by to see me. I said no and the waiter sighed and said , no charge for the coffee. So we left By this time there were 20+ waiting to be seated and many hungry and angry people waiting for food. We left and got in our cars and had dinner outside downtown. Came back as we were staying in the hotel and the same people were still waiting to be seated. So both times (2 years apart) I tried to eat there and was unable too. Lesson learned. Hotel service itself was great. Restaurants not so much.

The service was horrible. we waited 30 minutes to get our drink orders and 45 minutes to get a grilled cheese sandwich. The table we were sitting at kept moving from one side to the other, the silverware and plates would slide off side to side. The floor was dirty and overall look was old and not very well taken care. I was so hungry so I went for the buffet and when I asked for toast... i was told the toaster doesn't work. They also had a coffee/expresso machine... that didn't work either. I was told to ask the server for coffee but the server took 30 minutes to bring us a glass of water.

Myself and 5 coworkers went to Walkers Exchange last night in hopes of a quick dinner before hitting the town. We arrived at 7pm. It took about 15 minutes for our server to take our drink order, then another 30 minutes for the drinks to arrive, only after someone from our table asked the hostess where our drinks and server disappeared to. After that, our food arrived and 3 orders of the Steak Frites were well done when we ordered medium rare, a salad with chicken had cold chicken ontop. After the delayed drink order and having to send back a few meals, we didn’t leave this restaurant until 9pm. Although our server was awful and food took multiple attempts to get right, I will say the manager was very kind and attentive. She ended up comping our entire meal due to the inconveniences throughout the evening. Out of towners and people staying at the galt hotel beware! Stay away!!

Breakfast buffet was below expectations. Bacon was significantly undercooked. Waffles had a 15 minute wait - very backlogged bc made to order, and there was always a line. Berries were moldy, and several food items were empty and had to be requested to have replenished. Our server forgot our drinks several times and made out our final bill incorrectly. The Christmas Train and the Santa were great. The food experience was below expectations for such a beautiful hotel.

Second time going to Breakfast with Santa at the Galt House. Last year the food was so good we couldn't wait to go again this year. We were greatly disappointed. Fewer items on the buffet, most of the food was dry with poor presentation, and only one person was working in the area where you could get made-to-order omelets and waffles, causing a back-up. Last year steak was on the buffet. This year Beef Bourguignon was the replacement and it had a terrible aftertaste. The pastries looked like they came out of a box and were tasteless. The coffee was bitter. Last year the tables were decorated with flowers and ornaments. This year a lone cactus sat on each table. Someone could have made an effort to make the tables more festive. Each child received an elf or a snow fairy. Nice touch, but there was an unexplained $16 surcharge on our bill plus a place to add a tip. Santa Claus and the train ride were the saving grace. Both did not disappoint. The man who operated the train was very good with the children and tried to ensure that every child who wanted to ride in the engine had an opportunity to do so. Santa visited the individual tables, watched children ride the train, and sat in his chair so children could visit with him. We are on the fence about next year. Unless I see reviews praising the food, we will be spending our time and money elsewhere.

They ended up closing for dinner service on this day and cancelled us. At least they called that morning to let me know and then another call around 4pm to confirm I got the message. Ended up going to Irish Pub down the street a few blocks away.

Never again. We looked at the menu before we went and when we arrived they handed us half the menu and said tonight was the “express menu “ no entrees, only apps, soups and salads and handhelds. I did get to watch another chef make pizzas for an adjoining bar but was not offered those. I think as locals we just expected more from the famous Galt House. I will never go back to walkers exchange. Had I been told the bar offered pizza and other menu items I would have chosen that. Did make for a disappointing date night

I would recommend ordering off the menu and not the breakfast buffet. Most of the food on the buffet was cold. The restaurant was not very busy but it took us forever to get our drinks and refills. The atmosphere was good for breakfast.

Terrible experience. Below average food. Rushed service. Felt like a restaurant in a hotel and not a place they want people to return too.
