About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for creative cocktails
Tujague's is the second oldest restaurant in New Orleans. This French Quarter institution has been serving traditional New Orleans cuisine to locals and visitors alike for more than 160 years.

Lore states that brunch originated here, as did the Grasshopper cocktail. Homages to the restaurant's long and colorful history abound within the interior of the building from the classic 19th century architecture to memorabilia on the walls.

Menu items such as the seared gulf fish and the daily gumbo meld French traditions with New Orleans fare and flare. Our famous five course menu is still served nightly; but have no fear, the menu is no longer pre-fixe, so those less ravenous diners can join in too.

If you want a quintessential New Orleans experience filled with history and local fare, Tujague's is your place.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Gus Martin

From the OpenTable editors: It’s the second-oldest restaurant in New Orleans, with the claim to fame of inventing brunch—and some even say it’s haunted. Welcome to Tujague’s, founded by French immigrants in 1856, and still letting the good times roll for more than 160 years. Today it’s a slice of history in the French Quarter, filled with mirrors, chandeliers, and a collection of 6,000 mini liquor bottles. Don’t miss the spicy shrimp remoulade, boiled brisket, and grasshopper cocktail, another house original.

The quality of food and the attention to detail in terms of the service makes this a five star restaurant. Incredible value and I will be returning.

We have had a good experience when the restaurant is not busy, however on holidays, with a fix menu, service is bad, food is cold and on top of it, at the end they couldn’t fulfill our desert choice.

We went for Easter brunch. It took an hour and 45 minutes from being seated to getting the check. The servers were nice and did their best, but we were told that orders were backed up in the kitchen. There was a fixed brunch menu. The food wasn't bad; it just wasn't up to the standards of a long-time N.O restaurant.

The bathroom was too inconvenient because of a private party.

Food was great, but wait staff constantly interrupted conversation to explain why drinks and food were so late. So hire more kitchen workers, and don’t assume that diners will blame waitstaff for delays.

The experience was good but the food is not what is was. My pork loin was dry and chewy and the fish did not have much taste. The servers and manager were nice and checked on us when we questioned the upcharge on our credit cards

It was delicious food and we appreciated our servers attentiveness! I had the Drum and it was the best I’ve ever had. One obviously inebriated female guest was extremely loud and boisterous. But once dinner was served it was all good. Maybe offer the bread service or an app on the house and bring peace quicker to the room 😉

During our first trip to New Orleans we were so excited to go to Tujague’s Restaurant to try Cajun food. The anticipation was quite high as all the food we tried in New Orleans (even from inexpensive hole-in-the-wall places) was delicious. Our experience at Tujague was unfortunately truly bad - soups (turtle and gumbo) were very subpar as were appetizers mushroom crepes and crawfish raviolini- likely because everything was COLD. We ask the waiter to heat up crepes at least, but it did not improve the taste. One dish - gulf fish Decatur was better (as quality of fish was good), but our experience was ruined. While we sat at the table no waiter even came to refill the water. It was such a letdown that I took time to write a first bad review in my life. I hope that management will take these comments to the heart to improve the service and food in this upscale and historic place.
