A new favorite! We just came back from Tokyo, and this scratched our itch for great Japanese whiskey in a great setting (the highball was exactly was I was looking for, if not way better!) Everything hit the spot from the drinks and food (the edamame was addicting) to the music and atmosphere (not too kitschy, a perfect blend of LB and TYO)!

Such a vibe! West coast meets Japan. Where you can find a Japanese whiskey next to a Tupac album. Delicious cocktails, waitress was super helpful in helping us pick drinks we’d enjoy. The food was the only room for improvement, loved the charred edamame and the corn dogs were so cute and tasty, but the chicken wings were a flop for us. They were bland, and hard to eat with the flat and drum still connected.

My experience at Tokyo Noir was fabulous. Jasmin greeted us at the door brought us in. We were seated right away. I definitely felt like we transported into a new world once we sat down. Every single drink we ordered - four of us in total, and essentially we all tried a new cocktail every round and loved, enjoyed, and indulged with each drink. The edamame and fries were delicious and perfect. We would’ve tried out more of their food, but we all ate beforehand. I can’t wait to come back and tell everyone about this wonderful experience. Shout out again to Jasmin, she helped us navigate their wonderful menu and guide what to drink next when we needed help. Thank you Tokyo Noir!

The concept of a "speakeasy" was intriguing, but it seemed more like an overly loud, small bar. $22 plus tax and tip for an old fashioned seemed excessive.

Tokyo Noir certainly left an impression, though it didn’t quite reach the heights of greatness. The entrance is a bit unconventional, as you access it through an alley or safer yet, a well lit Mexican restaurant. While this adds to the experience, I found the layout somewhat puzzling—especially how you navigate through hallways and bathrooms before reaching your table. The ambiance was strikingly dim, which made taking photos a challenge and added to the overall chaotic feel. One notable hiccup was when our server struggled to identify our dishes once brought to table; what we thought was Japanese eggplant from the "tsunami plate" turned out to be octopus! This lack of clarity in communication was disorienting. On a brighter note, there were some standout dishes worth mentioning. The charred edamame caught our attention with its unique flavor profile, while the wasabi fries and corn dogs delivered delightful bites. However, being a foodie myself, I felt some flavors could have been better highlighted through more thoughtful preparation rather than just additional spices. One dish that divided my group was the bluefin tuna tostada.. Personally, I appreciated its subtle seasoning and rich taste; however, others weren’t as impressed. On another positive note, we absolutely loved the $3 oysters—a steal for such quality. Our reservation was for 6:30pm and they open at 5:00pm - we were consoled by chef that they were out of Asian buns. The bartenders—truly stole the show! Their cocktail-making skills felt like something out of “Cocktail” with Tom Cruise and good looks - they crafted an outstanding old-fashioned garnished with shaved truffle that elevated our experience significantly. Overall, while I enjoyed my time there and would gladly return for cocktails rather than dinner—leaving me slightly hungry—I don't see this as a long-term dining destination. It's a clever speakeasy concept that shines in mixology but could use some refinement in its food.
