About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Hot spot
  • Charming
We do take a limited number of online bookings but walk-ins are very welcome (and encouraged)!

Tired of the loosely French inspired humdrum of restaurants popping up across the city of London? Do you like holidays? Do you like cold drinks and warm service? If you've answered yes to one or more of these then perhaps Tollington's can refresh both your pallet and your mind

The idea came from a mirror in an antiques market and a love for a more informal approach to dining, the result a chippy in North London with church pews bolted to the walls to be leaned on and eaten from. The focus is on fish but the menu transcends just fish, leaving no stone unturned in the never ending quest for flavour

Split between two rooms, the kitchen and bar shared by customers as they perch on bar stools and enjoy dinner and a show. The back room - lower lighting, lower seating, a slight calm compared to the front room. Works of art from friends of the restaurant adorn the walls and floors

We booked a slot that was just before the kitchen closed which meant we were rushed from the outset which wasn’t a good way to start. The ambiance and service didn’t recover from there. The food was good. The bravas and the scallops were the standout dishes. Unexpectedly loved the touch of the basic baguette to mop up sauces. The wine was fine. Had an orange and olive oil cake for dessert: flavour was there but texture was lacking. Very glad we went but probably won’t go back despite living very close.

This is my second time dining at Tollingtons and I thoroughly enjoyed it again. The service was slightly disappointing as our waitress was pretty rude and unfriendly, however the vibes were still great and the food was good overall.

I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately it was a letdown. The food was alright — we ordered the crab claws, which were decent, but nothing memorable. The waitress mentioned she would bring the equipment to open the claws, but she never came back with it, so we had to struggle through it ourselves. After finishing our first round of food, we were still hungry and wanted to order more drinks and dishes. However, we were completely ignored for almost 20 minutes. No one checked on us, and trying to get anyone’s attention felt impossible. Eventually, we just gave up, asked for the bill, and left. The service overall was very poor — even tables around us were left with empty plates sitting there for the entire time we were dining. Honestly, the whole place felt very overrated. Would not recommend, and definitely won’t be coming back. Killed my hospo soul!

The food was pretty good but really let down by the service, staff were not smiley or particularly friendly on entry which really set the tone for the evening. I thought the price was quite high for what it was, for £150 there are a lot better restaurants.

Wow. That was one of the best meals we have had in recent memory. And I’m not even really a fish guy (there was a pork roll thing which was banging.) they let us bring the pushchair in which was a touch and the staff really knew their way around the menu. The food was fast and delicious. Grace dent was right about the chip they’re amazing. The pudding was amazing. Their beers (alcoholic and non alcoholic) were great. Can’t speak highly enough of our experience. Also love the vibe. Love that they kept the oldschool chippy feel.

Read Grace D review a while back and wanted to experience the place. I was totally knocked out by both the chips and bifana.

We wanted somewhere local, with good food, good atmosphere and friendly staff - we got it! The menu is small, but varied and something to suit everyone's taste. We loved it. Not pretentious just well cooked tasty food.
