The White Oak is a contemporary Michelin rated pub and restaurant in the heart of Cookham in Berkshire.

Taking hospitality back to it's roots with a warm welcome from our genuinely friendly team, gastronomic experiences showcasing outstanding suppliers and produce but most of all – to enjoy our great quality menu, simply prepared.

The White Oak prides itself on offering a diverse selection of wines, beers, cask ales and ciders. Our carefully selected wine list offers an accessible range of bottles to suit all tastes and dishes and don't worry if you are driving, we have an extensive lo and no alcohol list too.

There is a large garden and terrace which is covered and has heaters, with dining pods for the perfect unique dining experience. There is ample parking and dogs are very welcome in the bar.

We reserved a table at 8pm on Valentine’s Day and turned up at our allotted time - table was still in use and asked to wait at the bar. We went to the bar, that was full of dirty used glasses, and waited 10 mins to be served even though there was no one else at the bar, waiting staff rushing around everywhere and all clearly looked very stressed. Finally got a drink at 820pm and waited until 840pm for our table. Took a while to get served - finally got our food at 930pm but my wife’s dish was cold. No waiting staff around, so had to go to manager to ask to rectify, which she promptly did - however, took both dishes back and waited another 15 mins for our meal. By this time we had lost our appetite and felt the evening had been completely tarnished. Decided to get the bill after our main as didn’t want to stay any longer - my wife’s dishes were taken off the bill, but generally very disappointing evening - it used to be very smart and good service gastropub but now it is clearly tired and average food. Will not be retuning.

Today was my mate John's birthday. I had arranged a birthday lunch for my mate John at The White Oak at Cookham. It's part of the Brucan Group. Me and my partner had eaten at their Finchampstead pub The Greyhound on several occasions so I guess I knew roughly what to expect. We started by sharing 6 oysters. Delicious. John had the grilled mackerel on squid Bolognese with samphire. Spot on. I had the steak tartare. Delightful. We both went for the braised beef shoulder on mustard mash. Cabbage seriously good. Absolutely delicious. They kindly presented John with a happy birthday plate of chocolate brownie or sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. Made John smile. Thank you The White Oak for a perfect birthday lunch. Very highly recommended. Cheers...

A wonderful and delicious lunch and the offer of extra sides, especially the cauliflower cheese was totally abused with relish. The food was so good and the service five star. We will be returning.

The only reason the atmosphere isn’t 5 stars is that it was, understandably, quite quiet on a Tuesday lunchtime - but good for them being open at all! The welcome from Peter & his team was exemplary, the wine selection very carefully selected & therefore very enjoyable, and the food choice was good, the food was very well cooked, served with style & was very good value for money. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend

A very enjoyable evening catching up with a friend. The staff were very good and got the right balance of checking if we were ok but leaving us to chat. We will definitely return.
