After having a phone call to confirm our booking for 4 people, I was informed that we could not mix both the a la carte menu and the festive menu( I always thought that the paying customer decided what the wished to eat) Service was paid Painfully slow, considering* that the restaurant already had confirmation of our choices of food. Food itself was not piping hot, but appeared to have been sitting under a heat lamp before being served. Staff were at best average, with one waitress dropping desert cutlery on the table, rather than placing it to individual places. Worst of all was the service charge added to our bill. When questioned, we were informed that this was normal practice, with no option of accepting or refusing said service charge. At nearly £20 of a service charge, to say we were shocked was an understatement. Having visited this restaurant/ bar on several occasions, we were very ,very disappointed. On this visit, I can say that we were not the only unhappy customers. With this visit in mind, I can only say, that it will be our last. Sorry, no calu3 for money at all
The SaintResponded on December 2, 2024
Hi David Please accept my further apologies that we did not deliver on the evening and you felt the service was poor. As we discussed on the evening the pre-order for the festive menu is a requirement as we do not offer this menu on a walk-in basis, and certainly allowing the option to mix the a la carte menu with the festive menu is certainly something we will consider for future festive seasons. The service charge which is discretionary is added to all bills upon presenting to the customer and should it be requested then absolutely there is no issue for this to be removed - we do advise customers on all our menus as well as on our website that we operate a discretionary charge policy. Kindest Regards Steven Gordon

Food was very good. The service was very poor. Having dirty starter dishes sitting for 20 minutes is not good. Sat for an hour and only received drinks and starter. Same with the main course, sat with finished dishes in front of us for way too long. Asked if we wanted anything else and we requested the dessert menu but were forgotten about again. Service charge was on the bill but we asked for it to be taken off and we would put our own amount on. This was done and when I had to ask for the card machine to pay I was asked to wait while another table paid their bill because they were in a hurry. Not great service at all. Couldn't fault the food. However no wafer for the ice cream and no cheesecake available at 1915hrs.

Booked a table for 11:15am. On entering the bar area we weren’t even acknowledged. Told the bar staff we had booked a table and she said to wait and someone would be with us (whilst pouring the chef of the kitchen a pint of beer)10 mins later someone asked if they could help. Explained we had booked a table and he sat us down with lunch menus only to say they didn’t serve lunch till 12. We all agreed breakfast menu would be fine (at 11:30 when they stop serving breakfast!) Took them ages to take our order of 3 coffees and 1 pint orange cordial, for them to comeback 10 minutes later and say they had no orange cordial or any syrups for the coffees apart from gingerbread. At this point we decided to leave. Service was slow to say the least, looked like no one on front of house actually cared about any customers walking through the door. A real shame as the food looked really good quality.

Excellent service from every member of staff. Caring and very professional, especially as my friend has complex dietary issues. Food was lovely and surroundings attractive and spotless. First time there but we’ll be back! Our only gripe was £11.95 for an extremely meagre cheese board. Rather overpriced!

Hi Margaret Thankyou for taking the time to review your recent visit and it is lovely to read that the team were caring, professional and we managed to cater for your friends dietary issues. Overall it sounds like you had lovely time and enjoyed the ambience. I am sorry you found the cheeseboard overpriced and we will certainly consider reviewing this on our next menu change. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Kindest Regards Steven
