The Red Herring offers a "fab ambience" with "lovely efficient staff" and "very good quality fresh tasty food." Diners appreciate the cozy, compartmentalized decor, and the value for money. Although some dishes are unconventional, the venue is "beautiful" and staff are "friendly and attentive." Overall, a "great choice" for memorable dining.

When the food arrived, it was piping hot and very good. We didn't have starters but the main courses we had were reasonably priced. The staff were lovely although it was a full hour after we arrived before our food came which did feel like a long wait. Our main complaint was that it was freezing. Our table was at the back of the restaurant next to the toilets and the back door. There was a wood-burning which was not on and had a candle in it instead. Temperatures outside that day had reached -5 degrees C so it would have made sense to have the fire on. When we mentioned it to a member of staff on our way out (who was super friendly, btw), she she said that the staff didn't have time to maintain the fire when the restaurant was busy. The front of the restaurant also has a stove which was blazing nicely. The ambience at the front of the restaurant seemed warm and convivial while we felt a bit second class at the back. The couple at the table next to us were complaining about the cold too. Overall, I would revisit during the day but I would probably not stay if they could only over us a table at the back as it's a bit miserable.

This was our 2nd time at the Red Herring. That first visit pre Christmas was excellent, so we thought we would return for my wife's birthday, We were however disappointed by both the starter and the main course, which were both Italian dishes. Only 2 small scallops on the starter dish, we would have expected 3 or 4 for the money and the pasta dish we had as a main was quite bland, it was returned, but the replacement was really no better. Like other reviews below we are local and want to see this restaurant survive, but I think more effort and improvement is needed in the kitchen area given the excellent restuarant a few door along. Waitressing staff although young and inexperienced were doing their best. I did ask had the chef changed but she didn't respond.

Food was very good, it was busy in the restaurant and service was a bit slow. We were compensated for our longer wait. Atmosphere was nice and staff very pleasant.

A mixed review as we so want this restaurant to succeed but some basics were poor unfortunately. Party of 4. Ordered a bottle of white to have while looking at menu and it was at room temperature or warmer. Sent it back and next was better. Later in meal another bottle only slightly chilled. One of 3 starters didn’t arrive until 3rd asking and as others were hot ones they were finished before missing one arrived. 2 of the mains (ravioli & scallops) were lukewarm or so cold chef offered to start from scratch. Another main was only warm although eaten. The replacement mains found the scallops were still cool/raw in the middle. However staff were attentive throughout even if some training still evidently required. Eg meat ordered Medium was questioned if that meant cooked through and when it came was very well done. With a few small improvements could be so much better.

Booked for dinner on Friday evening. Arrived for 7.30 and the restraunt was buzzing. We were seated promptly and drinks and starters arrived promptly. Staff were attentive and efficient. Unfortunately the main courses slipped the net and we needed to ask where they were. Once restarted they arrived within 10 minutes however they were maybe not as made with love as they could have been. These things happen and overall we had an OK meal. We will return as we think this was just a slip up.

This new place to eat in Bridge of Allan is excellent. It offers a wide variety of food from small plates to a full main course. Great atmosphere and lovely staff. A vibrant fun place to eat and also caters for any budget.

Overall, fab ambience, Lovely efficient floor staff, very good quality fresh tasty food . Main points: The fish and chips 2 pieces of delicious fresh fish & batter not too thick. Lasagne was unusual, not as expected. Tasty very tender beef strips possibly pulled beef in a very rich sauce topped with large parmesan shavings with only little pasta and no bechamel sauce. Not to the taste of person who ordered. Tasty although not what expected for lasagne. Put it down to being very much an alternative version of lasagne. The vegeterian pasta dish was lovely. Soup and sandwich was very tasty and substantial. We will definitely go back .

Still teething after its opening. Service a bit random with pleasant but inexperienced young staff. Food was ok but the menu is a bit imbalanced and the descriptors need some work, e.g. cheese and meat starter wasn't the expected small platter but a rocket salad with mozzarella and a few pieces of salami. Tasted ok but I wouldn't have ordered it if I'd known what it was. Had the celeriac steak as a main which was nice if not a bit on the small side for £20. Overall I'd give it a couple more goes before deciding if I was going to become a regular.
