Man on reception duty was friendly and instructed us where to go for the restaurant. Restaurant staff were friendly, welcoming and courteous. Food was delicious, full of flavour, well cooked and beautifully presented. Service was great, nothing was too much trouble. I would certainly recommend eating at The Mermaid.

We booked the famous Mermaid Inn as a birthday treat but were disappointed. The food wasn’t very good for what is a comparatively expensive restaurant. The service was friendly but not entirely efficient or particularly polished. No one checked if we were enjoying our food and we only had a chance to comment when our plates were cleared. The waiter said he was sorry that I hadn’t enjoyed my food. When our bill came the restaurant manager asked how our meal was and I said we’d been disappointed. Although the staff were friendly, I didn’t feel our opinions really mattered. The only positive for us was that the restaurant itself was an attractive room. We won’t be dining there again.

Sadly disappointing dining experience. The historical location and pleasant service was spoilt by our expectations of the food. The shrimp & crab was mild cream flavoured mush and the seafood risotto was ruined by large chunks of chorizo; the sole had and over rich cream that ruined the taste of the fish and the sea bass was swamped in gazpacho that completely ruined the fish steak. Dining at The Mermaid should be a real treat. Sadly on this occasion we were let down.

Very characterful and charming setting; lovely table linen, crockery and cutlery etc. Food was delicious overall, with extras such as amazing homemade bread. My two friends thought their meals were excellent, especially the vegan option. Unfortunately my sea bass was not good (soft skin instead of crispy, and some sort of membrane left in tact that should have been removed). The staff response was however superb; no defense or quibble, just apologised and agreed to not charge for my meal, as well as providing complimentary tea and petit fours. A special mention for Steven, the waiter, who was hugely informative about the history of the Mermaid Inn :). Overall, we had a lovely evening.

This is most definitely our favourite place to visit for dining, overnight stays and relaxing. Everything is perfect about the mermaid inn and the staff are fantastic and very friendly, the food is out of this world and the rooms are incredible, we love visiting and are always excited about our next visit. We can not recommend the mermaid enough

Bland and unseasoned. This reflects the Sunday lamb option which was bland, fatty, unseasoned and dull… only positive was the amazing focaccia and charcoal butter. This was a massive disappointment.
