The George Public House is a Victorian reincarnation of a 15th century coffee house located at the meeting point of the Strand and Fleet Street, directly facing the spectacular architecture of the Royal Courts of Justice and a 10 minute walk from the West End. In the Autumn of 2014, The George underwent an extensive and considerate refurbishment of the ground floor bar and first floor dining room. This saw the creation of an elegant and sophisticated restaurant; The George. We have carefully retained the original features of this historic pub and have tastefully added our own stamp while keeping a traditional feel throughout.

The restaurant upstairs at The George is open all week and offers an exciting, modern British menu, using only the finest seasonal, local produce, as well as fantastic roasts on Sundays.
We are currently offering the same menu in both the pub and the restaurant.

What fantastic service. Food did not disappoint but the service was the real star of the evening - upstairs manager (they let us sit upstairs given how packed downstairs was) made the whole evening a treat.

Good menu choice. Sunday so roast options but good other choices which covered the people who dined and not just the usual pub fare either. Very good quality food. Staff very helpful and friendly. Good choice of beer on draft.

If you want beautiful food coupled with a wonderfully relaxed ambience, this is your place. A great buzzing pub bar downstairs but peace reigneth upstairs. Didn’t give 5 stars for ambience just because very quiet when we dined, due to short staffed. Would definitely book again.

The evening was excellent, the food was delicious with good sized portions and it arrived quickly. The only downside was the lack of availability of 3 of the mains which meant that 3 of the 6 of us had to change our first menu choice. Also one of the sides was not available. Whilst I completely understand the need to stop waste it was a shame that the menu was so limited at 7pm on a Saturday night. That said I would definitely go back again. Thank you The George for offering fresh, high quality dishes despite your prime location. As Londoners we are usually disappointed with the food offered in many central London locations- but you offer a wonderful menu and dining experience for tourists and locals alike.

Probably the best Sunday roast I’ve had in a month of Sundays. Compliments to the chef for the quality and tenderness of the meats. The waitresses were just right; happy, helpful but not over bearing. A really lovely old traditional pub with an extensive range of beers. Will be looking for a reason to return in the near future.

Highly recommend The George for Sunday Lunch. We ate in the upstairs dining room. Generous portions, delicious, well presented food. Beer and wine options excellent, including non alcoholic alternatives. Service was good by very pleasant, professional staff. Good atmosphere in this lovely, old, historic pub.
