   The service is just dire. Train the staff. Also blue cheese on a burger ? Really an acquired taste for £20. Just train your staff, pay them better perhaps and remind them to actually bring the bill instead of just nodding. It wasn’t even busy.

   The good points, the staff who attended to us were extremely helpful and polite. The bad point, when I booked the table, which was well in advance of the date I wanted the table reserved, I requested a quiet area. We were positioned right by the bar which was terribly noisey and made conversing with our table companions almost impossible.

   On arrival after announcing our booking, a waiter just left me standing while they went into the kitchen ! No explanation. Just walked away ! Came back saying our table wasn’t ready , even though there were many empty tables ! No flexibility of a different table and couldn’t have been more disinterested as though I’d stopped an important task of filling up cutlery /napkin trays . I’ve been to many similar restaurants in the area who wouldn’t find it a problem to seat at alternative table. We were directed to the bar for drinks drinks . A waitress stepped in called us when the table was ready and was great ! and the restraunt setting was lovely - preferable to the bar . Food was excellent. Seafood sharer starter in particular . Great value and lovely menu . Never had a bad meal . Shame I can’t say the same about service ! Finally - what’s happened to the decor ? Cartoon pictures in a contemporary dining setting . Wellies and umbrellas cartoonisibg a wonderful natural door dressing . Confusing look. Not what I’m used to seeing here .

   Had a lovely breakfast, really tasty especially as the chef accommodated the tweaks we requested. Very good value as well.

   The food here can be compared with many more expensive restaurants but with a relaxed pub style ambience, good portion sizes and reasonable price levels. Yesterday a lovely white onion soup followed by steak frites for lunch as good as any I have had in Paris. Sunday lunch is of a high standard also and very busy .

   My colleague had dietary requirement which we’d notified the restaurant about but staff were not aware of this on arrival. They were not knowledgeable about the menu and did not put my colleague at ease that her severe allergy would be suitably catered for.

    My experience at The Forest has always been enjoyable with the food being exceptional too. The Staff are efficient and friendly.
