About this restaurant

  • Lively
  • Great for happy hour
  • Good for groups
The Barre, Arts Centre Melbourne’s sleek space, offers a touch of luxury and hint of showmanship. You’ll find a lively pre- and post-show buzz that takes the bar and eatery from early evening to late night.

The modern Australian menu, with its emphasis on fresh seasonal ingredients, offers both small and larger dishes to be shared and enjoyed with friends. Choose from a well-considered wine list with prominence to local winemakers, an exciting range of craft beers and ciders, or a distinct selection of cocktails and small-batch Australian gins and single malt whiskies.

The world of booze, bubbles and beers is ever-changing and The Barre is excited to also offer a range of alcohol-free options.

From a pre-show sparkling with a share plate, a meal with a fine wine or a mellow late-night drink, we invite you to join us at The Barre.

We chose this restaurant for our last night in Melbourne and I’m afraid I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re looking for a quick bite before a show. The scallop Tikki Masala was ok and the lamb shank was done quite well but not overly flavorful. The main reason I was not impressed was the lacklustre flavor in one of their signature cocktails (Reanimatio ) and the disappointing mushroom ravioli. I rarely give a review like this but I think they need to up their game to compete with other restaurants in the area.

Need more vegan options and better quality. Vegan option wasn't as advertised.

The service and small eats were great as always, the lamb shank was unfortunately dry and not great. :(

Food was very well cooked and tasty. Staff were lovely and really looked after us even though very busy. The venue was full so was reasonably noisey.

Food was excellent, especially the confit duck leg, though snapper was quite small. Half price happy hour drinks before 6pm was a bonus for us. Service was very quick despite the busy time, but noise level was high.

The entre and main were delivered together! The calamari was cold and the lamb was tough. Very disappointing.

I was pretty disappointed in the food here. I ordered the mushroom ravioli which was soggy and tasteless and there was too much sauce to pasta ratio. My friend ordered the whole snapper which needed to be at least partially deboned as she found the whole eating experience unpleasant due to the many chunky bones. The service however was fine and accommodating. I didn’t feel the restaurant as a whole had much ambience however.
