A 16-foot Buddha, which floats above a reflecting pool filled with Japanese carp, presides over the scene at Tao. A favorite destination for celebrities and athletes, this Pan Asian restaurant specializes in authentic Hong Kong Chinese, Japanese and Thai cuisines. Tao has three levels of dining including the prized "Skybox" which offers views of this former movie theater unparalleled in New York. In addition to its 300 seats, Tao includes a sushi bar, lounge and two bars at which to enjoy the food and the show. Appetizers range from $8 - $18; Entrees: $16 -$39.     Tao Uptown: A Consistent Winner Tao Uptown consistently impresses, regardless of how busy they get. The service is always top-notch – friendly, attentive, and efficient. We've been particularly impressed with the managers, who are always visible and proactive, even following up with us the next day to ensure we had a positive experience. The restaurant itself boasts a vibrant and modern atmosphere with energetic music that creates a lively ambiance. It's one of our absolute favorite spots for a night out. And the food? Simply delicious! Some of our must-tries include: SHRIMP AND SCALLOP SPRING ROLL: Light and flavorful, with a delightful dipping sauce. SATAY OF CHILEAN SEA BASS: Tender and succulent, perfectly cooked and seasoned. SPICY TUNA TARTARE: A vibrant and refreshing dish, served with crispy rice for added texture. CRISPY ORANGE CHICKEN: A classic for a reason – perfectly crispy and tangy. FILET MIGNON PEPPER STEAK: Cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful.     Waited 45 minutes for our table. Tables were so close together there was little room to walk. Waiters were constantly bumping into the chair as they passed by. Not a pleasant experience. Had been before and loved it. Disappointing to wait so long in an overcrowded bar then to be seated in an overcrowded dining room…. Could have been prevented. Hope you fix these issues. Sadly, we probably won’t return.

    Overall excellent experience. Remarkably crowded but we were there during one of the busiest weeks of the year and they handled it really well! Food and service were both exemplary!

    Seated almost 30 min after reservation time and waitress could care less about serving us and only was interested in larger tables. Won't be coming back.

    Outstanding pan-Asian delicacies in a cool, night-club-like environment. Background music was not loud so that you can have a conversation with your friends/family. Everything we ordered, from the appetizers, entrees, sushi, and desserts, was amazing. Servers were friendly and attentive. Very happy that this Tao (Uptown) is still here and doing well. Definitely will repeat here for sure! :-)

    I was so disappointed this used to be my all-time favorite restaurant, but after yesterday‘s experience, I don’t think I would go back. The quality has taking a plunge for the worst. The food quality Is Nothing like it used to be. The service was very aggressive and it was super loud, we could barely hear ourselves speak. So disappointed Tao. At a place like Tao you’re better off increasing the price to cover cost never cut back on the quality. 🤦‍♀️

    We had a restervation for 8pm and we were there on time. At 8.45pm we finally got our table after several interventions.
