Designed by Rockwell Group, TAO Downtown offers a distinct sense of arrival and discovery and is the first TAO venue where guests descend into a multi-level space. The subterranean restaurant, located in the heart of Chelsea, is intended to look and feel as if it has been there for decades and only unearthed recently to reveal the artifacts within. Upon arrival, guests immediately encounter a long corridor with a dragon scale patterned screen and Chinese calligraphy murals mounted on weathered brick walls.

    I don’t understand why you need to make reservations and leave a card on file if it will still be a long hour wait after making your reservation on time. Front desk isn’t helpful and probably overstimulated from the crowd. Over it before I could enjoy my food.

    The ambiance was amazing, and we had a great table. Our server started out strong in the beginning, but then pretty much disappeared half way through. The food was good, not amazing, especially for the price point. Go for the vibe of the place, everything else was mediocre

    Can’t fault the food, amazing tempura maki roll, best I’ve ever had. Great looking venue, good music with live DJ. All this comes at a price though.

    The vibe in this place is so mellow & warm & inviting. The staff was so friendly & recommended so many wonderful options. The food was absolutely delicious as well as the dessert. I ordered a whiskey sour, the bartender made it to perfection. Cant wait to return!

    The vibe and ambience was great. The food was good but wasn’t groundbreaking. I will say the portions were larger than expected which was a good thing. Would definitely go back just off of ambience alone. Our waiter was very attentive and kind. No real complaints from me.
