The name of the restaurant is inspired by the Legend of Janare of Benevento. Strega means ‘witch’ in Italian and Benevento is considered the “city of witches”.
At Strega, our mission is to transport our guests to the Italy we cherish. Drawing inspiration from traditions across the Italian peninsula, we are dedicated to crafting an authentic Italian experience. With a profound appreciation and understanding of Italy’s rich history and culinary heritage, we prioritize using imported Italian products and are committed to maintaining authenticity in our recipes and menu selections.
At Strega, we believe that cooking with seasonal, authentic ingredients means there is not need for unnecessary embellishment - our food tastes great, is fresh, and at its peak. Our experience is crafted through a series of selected choices. We take pride in serving freshly made dishes, embracing wholesome Italian cooking with fresh and healthy ingredients.
We look forward to serving downtown New Haven.

Not only is their food great, but the service is also wonderful, and the presentation is very impressive. The plates they use for their dishes are unique and add to the overall dining experience, making each meal feel even more special. We truly enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. I could tell that Strega puts a lot of effort into creating a one-of-a-kind experience for their guests. We will definitely be going back again!

We had the chefs tasting with matching wine because there’s only six tables and it’s a small room. It’s quite a bit of background noise so we couldn’t hear our waitress. Tell us the history of the wine. Of the five courses the first course was the scallops and the single scallop was quite tasty. Courses two and three were pastas and they were OK . The Bookertee was an upscale macaroni and cheese. The shrimp pasta had pieces that probably equal one shrimp . there was nothing spectacular about the second course third course or entrée. The dessert was some kind of rum cake that was delightful Overall… good, not very good. Our bill was over $400, so no bang for the buck

Food was spectacular, flavorful and unique. Portions are "enough"; not quite enough to take home leftovers but didn't leave hungry. Desserts were excellent, clearly not an afterthought. Can't wait to go back!

Food was very good, you don't get your "normal" quantity of food but just enough to fill you up. Presentation was also great, they had a plate "design" for different meals so that was neat. Staff was very good and attentive, the decor itself is very modern looking and the restaurant only has 6 tables that sit 4 each so it's very small. All in all it was very good
