State of Grace is a coastal, South Texas neighborhood restaurant in the refurbished Lamar-River Oaks Shopping Center. Elegant but casual, its elevated comfort food by executive chef Bobby Matos is executed at the highest level in a welcoming, beautiful space. The jubilant medley of old favorites played with new spice, accent, and freshness lends itself to southern, American, Latin, Gulf Coast, German and Asian influences. Chef-owner Ford Fry’s first venture outside of Atlanta, State of Grace is located in the neighborhood where Ford grew up and nods to his childhood memories fused with Houston’s evolution into a melting pot of cultures and cuisines.

    We had dinner for three in their private dining room - great ambiance, lower noise level. Two dozen east coast oysters were delightful, served ice cold, opened to perfection, with delicious condiments - as always at State of Grace. Being regulars at SOG, we ordered our usual - Caesar salad, blackened redfish, Cacio et pepe pasta, and topped it off with their chocolate pecan ball. All were delightful, which, along with the normal friendly, efficient serving staff and attentive management team, keep us coming back again and again. Keep up the great work SOG team!

    Food is always good her..perhaps a bit less innovative than in the past but still delicious. The oysters were fantastic, as was our red snapper and scallops. Wonderful bread course and potatoes dauphinoise toothsome. Nice by the glass wine options too.

    6 of us for lunch. Server Verboon (spelling?) was excellent. Food was excellent. Deviled eggs, crab beignets, hamburger, onion soup. If the prices were a little lower, you could do much more lunch business.

    Overall I was pleased with our dinner at State of Grace. The ambiance was very nice and the service amazing. The food was a little disappointing for the price point. Our red snapper as a little too seared all around. The true disappointment was the bananas foster. While I clearly saw that they had the setup for flambé table side, we must have gotten the deconstructed version.. dish of vanilla ice cream with cold caramel sauce and a cut up banana on top. I’m not one to pass on dessert but this wasn’t worth any extra calories.

    My wife and I have the same Petite Fleur Villeroy Boch dinnerware that we ate our delicious brunch on. Loved the ambience. Our waitress was so personable and made us feel so welcome. This was our first time for us and we’ll definitely be back

    Lovely place that exudes Southern comfort. Seafood is remarkable, though dim lighting makes eating fish with bones a risky business. Overall delicious main and side dishes, good drinks and good desert.
