   I'd highly recommend Shrub - food was deliciously and fairly priced. I had dreams about those artichoke wings! Also the staff were really friendly and helpful. One of my favourite restaurants in Chester

   My husband and I were visiting Chester for our 10th wedding anniversary and we're both vegan but usually struggle to find good food to eat where we live. We loved Shrub as soon as we stepped in. The ambience was cosy but each table had its own light so you could see your food! One of my bugbears is eating in the dark. The head waiter brought us a little card for our anniversary and also provided great advice on what to choose from the tapas style menu. The service was discreet and welcoming. The food was some of the best I've ever tasted while eating out - particularly the bhajis, tofu and brussels. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone- non vegans alike because the food was outstanding. Thank you Shrub team for making our anniversary so special.

   I've spoken to Sammy the manager about my poor experience at Shrub nearly a week ago. He said he'd email back the same day after some investigation, but I have not heard anything. I guess he heard what he wanted to hear from his staff, forgot about me, or just couldn't be bothered. Either way, it just adds to the poor overall service received at our booking. To summarise, we arrived as a party of four, sitting outside. The ambience was very nice and the area was clean. Three of us ordered the small plates between us to share, and one ordered the shrub burger, drinks arrived fast and then we waited for our meal. The small plates started arriving, but no main meal for my other guest. We waited about 5 minutes, but my guest prompted us to start, so to save it going cold we began eating, which is not polite, but our food was going cold. We finished the few plates that had arrived and waited approximately another 10 minutes, with no main meal or the remainder of our dishes arriving. I asked the waiter, and then minutes later the second round of small plates arrived, with the main meal, but the main meal was not what he ordered exactly. A helpful waitress came back and took it away to be fixed, but again we had small plates which we began eating, while my guest waited further for his main meal, which was just a simple Shrub burger and fries, nothing complicated. That finally arrived, and shortly after the remaining small plates. The gaps between small plates was too long. We had gaps in-between plates with nothing to eat, and the awkwardness of my guest having no food at all. This is a dining out no no, and completely unacceptable. No apologies from staff, just laughing it off saying this is the second or third round as they arrived, but we were not impressed, just being polite. The food was okay, not upto usual standard. I could go on, but £166 for a sub standard meal, average service, and a manager that was not sincere with his apology and did not reply as he promised.

   Excellent vegan tortellini in creamy white wine sauce, and 'lamb' rigatoni in spicy tomato sauce.

   Another great meal at Shrub. The food is out of this world, you can't beat the level of flavour in every dish and I love that it's all plant based. The restaurant always has a very relaxed vibe despite it buzzing with customers and diners.

    Fantastic plant based food! As a group of four we ordered lots of small plates and thoroughly enjoyed mixing and matching. Very tasty. Desserts were lovely too
