Having always been at the heart of Valley life, the 17th century Shibden Mill Inn was originally a corn and spinning mill, before being converted into a country pub in 1890.

Today’s visitors are welcomed with warm hospitality to enjoy first class dining against an inviting backdrop of open fires, low beamed ceilings and a cosy bar. Eleven individually styled bedrooms make comfortable and luxurious retreats, epitomising boutique country style and featuring lots of thoughtful touches.

And if you can drag yourself away from the Inn, there are wonderful walks from the doorstep and world class attractions within easy reach. For a spot of retail therapy or a cultural fix, Halifax is a 10-minute drive and Leeds is just 30 minutes away.

Having visited the Shibden Mill inn for a number of year the weekend before Christmas we are excited to attend again. Unfortunately this years experience was somewhat disappointing, the starter cod Croquette was cold in the middle. Our mains arrived, my turkey was curled up and crispy on the edges. This was replaced. The replacement was not much better. 2 wafer thin slices of turkey, day old roast potatoes. Photos are available. We complained to the waiters only to be told “they are cooking for over 100 people today” must be too many. A gesture of £5 was deducted from the bill. This does not come close to a good will gesture based on the standard of food received. A toby carvery would have been so much better.

My husband and I enjoyed an excellent Christmas lunch here today. It wasn't too noisy, despite some large groups there. The serving staff were friendly and helpful and the food was top class. The rooms were nicely decorated with muted colours for Christmas (nothing garish.) It was altogether a super experience.

This was my first visit to Shibden Mill Inn based on recommendation. Overall the food, service and ambiance were good but I wasn’t wowed. I would return at another time in the year to try something different to the festive menu - after all there’s only so much you can do with Turkey and Christmas pud. The dishes were well presented and the pub had a cosy warm Christmas feeling. Service was efficient but lacked personality I said ‘I’ll have a cocktail to start as it’s my birthday’, and the waitress replied ‘okay’ which showed a lack of interest. It was fairly busy but the waiting staff didn’t seem stressed, it was a relaxing atmosphere. Overall we had a lovely evening, but for the price I expected the food to be the real star of the show. We appreciated the wine pairing suggestions and loved the wines we drank. Thank you.

This wasn’t our first time at Shibden Mill, it’s usually one of our favourite places. Today changed that! We were sat on a table of two in the corner of the bar room which when seated wasn’t a great start as it was extremely loud due to a group of men sat drinking at the bar, this carried on through the whole meal. We ordered drinks and then food, the bread and butters were 10/10 could not fault them at all. The starters arrived not long after the bread, the cod croquette was just like a really big fish cake which wasn’t overly nice so my other half ate the rest, his trout dish was really tasty. A girl then brought the mains, a separate girl came over and said she would bring the veg which she did, she put them down on the table saying nothing then walked away. Through out the whole meal no one asked if everything was ok, if we needed anything, if we needed any more drinks. We were just out in the corner and forgotten about. We had to collar someone to order another drink and then also to bring extra gravy. Staff would come into the bar area and congregate around the till then disappear. Hospitality was none existent for us. A while after we were seated there was a table of 4 seated next to us. They were asked a few times if evening was ok, when their mains arrived they were asked if they needed anything, they had extra gravy brought out with their veg and even asked if they would like any sauce. We felt completely neglected by the team today which isn’t the usual standard for Shibden. We have ate here quite a few times and today has put me off returning! If I could of removed the service charge from the bill I would have. We were planning on having dessert but after the extremely poor and ignorant hospitality we just got the bill and left. Shibden Mill do better!!

It is always a pleasure to com to Shibden Mill. The food is always great, the interior is warm and cosy and the staff, friendly and super helpful. This year it was even more of a pleasure, as teh place we had stayed in teh previous night was a let down on so many fronts - especially the food. Which was more expensive than Shibden and far worse. We will be back and I am looking forward to it already. Thanks for having my son, daughter and I
