    MICHELIN 1 Star

    2022

From the OpenTable editors: Chef Andrew Zimmerman's seasonal American tasting menu is so good that this West Loop favorite has consistently held on to a MICHELIN Star since first getting one in 2011. You'll get to choose from several options in your four-course dinner, which might include dishes like crispy ricotta gnudi, roasted monkfish with little neck clams, and a sweet pea pavlova with meyer lemon sorbet. You'll definitely want to get the wine pairing—Sepia won Wine Spectator's 2022 Best of Award of Excellence. Eating here feels extra-special because it's housed in an 1890 print shop with Art Nouveau floors and exposed-brick walls.

What a fabulous dining experience. Sat at a table in front by the window and glad we did. Not nearly as noisy as in main part of restaurant, and more importantly the table was much larger for four. Our server (Alex) was a 5 star guy and the food was so good. The meal almost doubled in price due to the wine pairing and didn’t mind at all. Will definitely be going back.

This was such an amazing experience. My partner and I were in Chicago for work over our anniversary, and decided to have a nice night out to celebrate. A friend local to Chicago recommended Sepia, and I'm so glad she did. From the moment we stepped inside, the evening was magical. The host staff and kind and helpful, the restaurant is beautiful, and the energy of the place was exciting but not overwhelming. We were very lucky to have Alex as our server, and he started off my assuring us he'd seen the note about the allergies in our party, and walking us through what was safe to eat, and how they could amend things if we wanted to try certain dishes. We added the wine pairing to the tasting menu, and each combination was thoughtful and delicious. Every time a dish was brought out, someone explained the components to us, which I loved because it makes the tasting menu experience so much more engaging, and Alex was so fun to chat with about the wines and why they were paired. He was a big highlight of our experience! Particular standout dishes were the popcorn and leek velouté, the gnudi, the duck breast, and the short rib, but we didn't have a bad bite all night. All in all, a magical evening and I can't wait to come back to Chicago to come back to Sepia!

Was recommended Sepia by a foodie friend several years ago but covid delayed many of our restaurant experiences. We went with a group of six. We all tried different courses and everyone was impressed by the presentation, flavor and service. Several did wine pairings which were different for each selected course and got high ratings all-around. The cocktails were also great. We were seated at a semi-private corner table with a really cool light accent. Overall it was a great experience and we are already planning a return trip.

The Out of the Woods cocktail was outstanding. Food was good but, based on our experience, comparable to other non Michelin good restaurants. Flavors were good but not enticing. Food presentation was nice. The wine pairing did not enhance the dining experience. Service was great and the staff very professional, friendly and attentive. Our cheese paired wine was substituted and not charged since we did not like the sherry initially served due to our personal preference. Ambiance was ok, a little noisy. Overall a good dining experience but expected a higher level based on the one Michelin star rating and cost.
