   the vibe was weird. the food was great but i wouldnt come here agn because the bald older gentlemen made myself & my friends feel unwelcome. mind you, the restaurant was completely empty on a friday night…

   The food was fine. Not terrible, not amazing. We had a good experience overall but I'm not in a hurry to come back soon. The ambiance of the restaurant was fun and offered a nice environment for dinner. I did not love the fact that gratuity was included in the check and our server made no mention of it. We fortunately caught it before we all double tipped the server. Not a great look.

   The first thing you noticed about Salvatore‘s is the decor and the ambience. It really sets the mood. The service was great. The drinks were perfect. As a starter, we had the margarita pizza and it was delicious. We both have the specials of the day. The fish was a striped mass And beef was a bone in ribeye which was cooked perfectly only it was already cut off the bone into pieces, which I prefer not. However it was delicious so I give them 4.5 , everything was perfect except the portion size of the fish . Should be a full filet

   The bad experience started before I even showed up. I called them to move the reservation by 15 mins. They said they can’t and they won’t guarantee a table if we are 15 mins late. So went there on time. They seated us at a handicapped table at the entrance where there was a cold breeze every time the door opened. Nobody in our party was handicapped. I asked to be reseated. The greeter didn’t seem to be interested in making us more comfortable. Said all tables were occupied and reserved while half the tables were empty. Those tables remained empty the whole time we were there. Getting past the seating nonsense there isn’t much to redeem this poor quality restaurant when it comes to their food selection and quality. They had a loud house music blaring the whole time run by a “dj”. Needless to say I will never go there again.

   We came to Salvatore's (reservation made prior) after attending a performance at the SD Civic Theatre. It was a Sunday afternoon, so there were minimal patrons. It was in between lunch and dinner (3-4 pm) and there was "technically" no service. That didn't matter. One of the managers bartenders, Tommy, was very hospitable to my wife (her B-day) and I, inviting us to sit anywhere and wait. We chose the bar and he offered us a cocktail and engaged in friendly conversation about the restaurant and most anything else. Afterwards, we were seated at a quiet booth. Overall, the drinks, food, service and ambience were excellent. We were very relaxed and lingered for a couple of hours. It was a very positive experience and we plan on returning again as well as inviting good friends to join us.

    Brought a small group from work for a nice casual dinner and the food was absolutely terrific. Very inventive, focused on fresh ingredients and creative variations of classic Italian dishes. The menu has something to please every taste and dietary habit with a nice selection of starters and small plates in particular. Our server was lovely and tried hard but was overworked for the number of customers and struggled a bit to keep up. On this particular night, it seemed like the supply chain was not our friend: they were out of an unusually high number of basics -- couldn't make three of their specialty cocktails, were out of a major salad item, some entree limitations, etc... seemed like everything we ordered was out and we had to re-organize our choices more than a usual situation. That said, the food, was spectacular, decently priced for San Diego, and the servings were generous. The staff were very pleasant and the environment was really nice - pleasant seating, good lighting, and a nice vibe. Would definitely return when in the area and hope that the delivery trucks show up !
