For ninety-eight years, New York's defining cultural moments have taken place at Russian Tea Room. Ever since members of the Russian Imperial Ballet founded the restaurant in 1926, it has been a second home for boldface names and the intellectual elite-an exclusive enclave where actors, writers, politicians, and businessmen planned their next deals and feted their friends' latest Carnegie Hall performances.

Our reservation was for 8pm and we arrived on time, however we had to wait almost 30 mins to be seated, and were not offered anywhere to sit. When we got to our table, we did not receive the hors deuves or bread and had to ask for both, they also did not have the wine we wanted. All in all it was a very expensive but disappointing evening.

Disappointing and way too expensive. Our waiter straight up forgot about us. I never got my drink. We came here for the Christmas dinner and aside from the decor and the food being alright. It was a major let down. I’ve always heard about this place and wanted to go. It was an expensive mistake come here but at least we will only make it once.

First it was a pre fixe menu. That wasn’t clear. I looked the menu up that day and that slipped under the radar. The food was probably the worst meal I’ve ever eaten. It’s so unfortunate the atmosphere was iconic. But when your bill is 315.00 for 2 without a tip or drinks that’s very painful.

Our dinner at the Russian Tea Restaurant was a mix of highs and lows. The food was undeniably delicious, showcasing rich flavors and excellent preparation. However, the kaviar tasting felt significantly overpriced for what was offered. Service was another weak spot—our server took an unusually long time to take our orders and came across as unfriendly at first, which put a damper on the experience. Despite these issues, the quality of the food redeemed the evening to some extent.

For that very special occasion, the Russian Tearoom is a NYC institution in restaurants. Excellent service, good food and a lovely ambiance comprise a number of reasons that it’s lasted close to 100 years.

Delightful! We reserved a table on the advice of friend and we’re not disappointed. The experience was lovely. Our waiter was extremely competent, the sommelier was knowledgeable, and both the food and wine were above our expectations. Happy holidays to all!

Theatrical interior and wonderful greet-and wait-staff. Herrings (3 kinds) appetizer was very good. Gravlax appetizer appeared to be normal smoked salmon. Salmon en croute tasted good but doughing was too much. Borscht was well made but plastic-like piece found in it. The manager took the news well and agreed it should not have been in there. He reported the problem to the chef and came back to say that it was a a hard piece of onion. Not really believable. However, the manager tried to make things good by delivering to my table a chocolate mousse dessert, gratis. It would’ve been nice if he had offered to provide a dessert of our choice instead of assuming we’d like the chocolate mousse which was made with too much butter in our opinion. So, overall a decent try, but the food was touch disappointing. And for the prices that were paid, it was really unfortunate.
