I booked a table a while ago to have Sunday lunch for three people. We arrived early but the table was already set up so we could sit down straight away. The problem was we had a table big enough for two, with three of us it was not very comfortable. Also it was very close to the door so we had people coming in and out thus making it draughty. I asked the waitress if we could move to an empty table but i was told that table would be in use soon. We decided to stay and make the best of it. We all ordered the Sunday roast and the only little niggle was the gravy was a bit too runny for our liking. The food though was DELICIUOS! Overall the value was good and we would happily go back, but not sit at that table again.

Very very busy for 1pm on an icy cold January Saturday, so they must be doing something right ! Table service was very amiable (Hugo i think), and he has to be commended. Food was less than impressive. The chosen dish of Cullen Skink was sold out, which for 1pm is rather surprising. I had a Ploughmans which for £15.50 was very limited and not even some nice bread, just a few re-heated triangles of Pita. My guest had a plate of 'vege sausage & mash' swimming in gravy, which looked like something which might be served 50 years ago in a miner's cottage and there was zero attempt at 'presentation'. The sticky toffee pudding was deemed delicious , but for 2 very very plain mains , 1 desert and 2 x 1/2 pints of beer , and a coffee, a tab of £50.40 seemed high. This was a mile away from Gastro-pub. We were told the main chef was off that day, which perhaps explains ? Oh and it was COLD inside. We all sat with coats on throughout the meal. Nothing terrible, but nothing great about the visit either. Perhaps if the main chef were there, it might be much better ?

Had a fantastic meal, really nice atmosphere. Two standouts here, Catherine who was brilliant even though she was busy and the turnip soup was delightful !
