About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for groups
  • Healthy
From renowned restaurateurs, Jen and Josh Ziskin, Punch Bowl is inspired by the historic 18th century tavern that Brookline was once famous for. The Ziskins have rekindled the spirit of the Punch Bowl and have recreated a communal gathering place in the heart of the village. Chef Josh Ziskin prepares cuisine that features his contemporary take on traditional New England fare and focuses on a variety of local farms and seafood. Punch Bowl has a slew of signature cocktails influenced by Brookline’s unique history and vibrant location. Enjoy Jen’s all female wine list inspired by the female Inn Keepers of the late 1700’s. Guests feel immersed in the city while seated in the light-filled dining room featuring floor to ceiling windows, an open kitchen and a state-of-the-art bar. For guests who would prefer to dine outdoors, Punch Bowl also offers a large patio area on the ground floor as well as a roof deck terrace with phenomenal views of Brookline and its’ historic Muddy River.

The service and ambience were nice. The food was not outstanding. The entrees did not seem fresh.

Attractive design. But the food was very uneven. Mezze starter had a hunch of salt poured on top of very salty things, so salt was overwhelming. Roasted chicken was really good! Desserts - creme brullee was solid, but sundae was just a bowl of whipped cream with tiny drizzle of chocolate sauce and dollop of ice cream (seems like a hard dessert to not be able to do). Service was rough - waitress was inexperienced I assume, not rude. Tried ordering a three different beers from the menu, and after each one she would say "we don't have that one" like we should have known. We had to flag her down to order, though place was pretty empty. Seems like with a few easy changes this could be much better.

I was a bit disappointed, had been previously and had a great time, but this time the food was meh, service slow and immaculate, ambiance too bright and loud..

I'm always surprised that Punch Bowl isn't more crowded. The food is excellent, the ambience is lovely, and it's quiet. The service is less than top notch, but always friendly. I definitely recommend it.

Delicious salad, dessert, and wine in a relaxed, low key space. Very pleasant waitress. Walking distance from work. I’m happy!

Wait staff mostly MIA. Like most restaurants, inconsistency is their hobgobblin

Great place for excellent food and quiet conversation. The menu is interesting enough to have fun things to try, and also has the basics to meet all the cravings of a visitor or local looking for classic New England fare. The cocktails have been well- made and creative, over several visits, as well. (My Beantown Margarita recently was fantastic!) Service is attentive but not intrusive or hurried. Highly recommend this place, especially for a quieter gathering.

We booked a business breakfast with the restaurant over a month in advance. I contacted the restaurant more than 4 times before the event to modify the reservation either online or over the phone. Every time I spoke to them on the phone or changed the reservation, I received an email confirmation of my reservation. The day of our business breakfast, they said they had NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE EVENT!!!! Unacceptable and unbelievable- how is that possible?!? I spoke to several different people and they were all able to pull up the reservation. The restaurant made our business look unprofessional and they made us late. There is nothing else I could have done to secure/confirm our reservation. I tried calling the day of the event over 5 times and no one picked up.... I have NEVER HAD SUCH AN UNRELIABLE EXPERIENCE!!! They didn't even comp us a meal or anything to make up for it. I'm appalled. SUCH TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Punch Bowl. Having eaten there many times over the past few years, every time my wife & I stay at the Hikton Garden Inn, I can earnestly state that the food is great, the service is exceptional (look for Billy at the bar--he's the best!) and the atmosphere is very "city." Enjoy!

We’re locals that were seeking a nice place to eat close by. We were not disappointed!! We were seated by a familiar face and were so glad that we made the leap - thanks Ace Atmosphere: contemporary lux. Menu: Pub grub but with a chef’s hand. Service: Fun! But then we were served by Ireland’s future premier doctor. If you don’t mind the sound of a kitchen - sit towards the back, want a little more quiet sit towards the front. Just go, both the steak and the Hake were very good and prepared to perfection
