A favorite of Julia Child - Pot au Feu Bistro is so much more than a restaurant... Established in 1972, our cozy Bistro is the oldest French Bistro in America. Pot au Feu Bistro kicked off the Providence Restaurant Renaissance being the first to offer something other than “steak, spaghetti and chow mien”.
Located in the Historic Downtown we are just minutes from all the hotels and convention center.

I’ve been wanting to dine at PAF since I worked downtown in my 20’s . Finally decided to go with my husband on New Year’s Eve and it didn’t disappoint. Despite being a busy night, food and service was excellent, and ambiance is cozy. I would go there ( and will) just for the freshly prepared crème brûlée and a cup of coffee ! Won’t wait so long for the next visit!

It was New Year's Eve and it was busy . We arrived during a medical issue involving another patron, but we were seated in a timely fashion. Food was great and service was good all bit it a little scattered, but given the staff was shaken up by previous medical issue it was amazing. We had a great time and our waitress Mera was gracious and even showed us the rest of the restaurant which I found to be charming. Overall I'm glad I took the chance of dining there for the 1st time after seeing the owner on Channel 12 promoting his place for New Year's Eve. I will definitely be back again and try another wonderful French meal without having to go to France.

Have not been in a decade and was incredibly pleased with our entire experience. The lower level is quite cozy and made for a charming, rustic experience. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked. We will be adding this gem back into our dining out routine.

The service here is excellent and the ambiance is cozy. The appetizers like the escargot are delicious, as are the desserts and the sauces. Other aspects like steak quality & doneness, however, can be inconsistent and not up to the same quality. I do love this place though and hope they can improve on the rough edges.

Descending down the stairs into this warm, cozy nook of rustic wood and rough-hewn stone, I reflected there was no place I’d rather be on a cool, drizzly, and foggy night. Greeted by “Bonsoir”, it literally felt like we’d arrived in Paris. Bread and salad are included with all the entrees (increasingly rare these days), and the food was very French and very delicious. It was topped off by the best crème brûlée I’ve ever had.
