About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
Nestled in the heart of downtown Western Springs, Petite Vie offers a menu curated with classic French dishes infused with Chef Paul Virant's signature flair. Spending time researching in France for inspiration, Virant has crafted every dish with meticulous attention to detail and a reverence for tradition.

Seating 65 guests, Petite Vie’s intimate space exudes the warmth and comfort of a traditional French brasserie, while seamlessly blending modern design elements. A collaboration between Virant, his wife Jennifer and long-time friend and designer Jody Tate, every detail at Petite Vie tells a story of meticulous craftsmanship and thoughtful curation.

Featuring French intricacy and layering, the space is a canvas of artistic expression, with artwork curated from both local talents and treasures acquired during the team's time in Paris. Framed prints, commissioned paintings, and a round antique mirror passed down through generations, adorn the walls, adding layers of intrigue.

Exceptional meal and service. The front section was extremely noisy - luckily there was a table in the back we could be moved to.

We absolutely loved our dinner at Petite Vie last night. I’m happy to report that they are open to the idea of reducing the volume of the music, which can be overwhelming. The meal was outstanding, and our service from Laura was not only impeccable, it was fun!

We have been toPetite Vie twice and have enjoyed it each time. It is probably not everyone’s taste, but we love the environment and the wonderful French food. I enjoyed every bite of the cassoulet and my husband devoured the steak frites. The service was very attentive and friendly. My only negative comment is regarding the fois appetizer. It should have been served room temperature. It was too cold and not very flavorful. otherwise it was a wonderful dining experience.

The restaurant is beautiful but too small to enjoy completely. Tables are too close together and it was very cold. The food was delicious and service was adequate but not fabulous.

We were excited to try this restaurant. Food was delicious!! However, that’s where it ends. We were seated 3rd table on the left. Tables allowed 12-18” to squeeze into the shared bench seat. At one point our servers rear end was resting on our table to take the order for the couple next to us. Pillows took up space for my purse & sweater. We felt as if we were having a fine dinner on a plane in a basic economy seat. The noise was overwhelming. Clanging of pots, pans & dishes from the kitchen, martinis being shaken and music made it impossible to carry on conversation. Both tables left & right of us were elevating their voices over the noise. We just gave up trying to talk to each other. Again, we loved the food. Not the ambiance. We have been to France, eaten in wonderful bistro’s and this does not reflect that European charm. Because of that we probably won’t be back.

We had seats at the chefs counter and service was very slow. We got an appetizer, split a salad and entrees and they all were delicious. Our dessert was a bit disappointing though. We got the tarte tatin and the crust was soggy, it was not a traditional caramelized apple tart, and portion was very small for $16. We didn't have a terrible time but aren't looking to go back any time soon.

Fabulous dinner! Our server was very nice and very helpful. We enjoyed endive salad and onion soup as starters. For dinner, my husband had perfectly cooked trout and I had the scallop appetizer which was delicious. Dark chocolate mousse was delightful.
