Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
OK Omens delights with its "great food" and "excellent service," offering an eclectic wine selection that complements inventive dishes. Standout items include the "ceviche and salad with cilantro dressing" and the $1 oyster happy hour. While portions can be small, the unique flavors and vibrant atmosphere make it a must-visit spot.

Felt Rushed Without Reason We met friends at Ok Omens on a rainy evening, excited to catch up at one of the restaurant's rare four-tops. From the moment we sat down just before our 5 p.m. reservation, we felt hurried. Servers interrupted frequently to prompt decisions, leaving us little breathing room to settle in. Our friends, who live nearby and have been here before, ordered a pasta dish and a burger—both looked substantial. My $36 sturgeon, however, arrived atop what seemed to be a small bed of thin strips of parsnip (?) and a quarter slice of charred onion. While the fish was cooked perfectly, the vegetables were sharp and bitter. Even after sharing appetizers, I left the table hungry. By 6:50 p.m., despite the restaurant being only about a quarter full, the hostess approached to inform us of a 7 p.m. reservation for our table, which suggested we skip dessert and coffee despite anything else she said after that. Oddly, there were nearby two-tops and several other tables include two right next to us that could have been rearranged to accommodate a larger party, making the rush unnecessary. We understand two-hour seatings during busy times, but this wasn’t the case. The restaurant was not bustling - it was more than half empty. It would have been nice to enjoy dessert and coffee to round out our evening instead of feeling ushered out prematurely. The hostess thanked us for understanding on our way out. We won't be back.

This place is pricey, and over-rated. The ambience is nice, but the noise is a bit too much. I tried a "flight" for $23 and got two small pours of average wine. We got the raw fish cerviche-type appetizer which was excellent. I got the $22 burger which was significantly over-priced since the "medium rare" was on the well-done side of medium, and the fig BBQ sauce was overly rich and abundant....the fries, however, were among the best I've ever had. My partner got the carrot side dish which was over-washed in a too-tangy sauce that flooded the entire plate. The 23% surcharge got us a waiter who scratched his rib cage twice while attending to us. I used to love Cafe Castangna....this place is a so-so to poor substitute at a higher price. If I'm gonna pay these prices ($131 for two of us), I expect much better attention to detail and significantly better quality.

We went for a birthday and had the worst service I’ve ever experienced at a Portland restaurant. Our server, was rude and combative. This is way sad the because the server was helping with a pop up and impacting the pop up. I reached out to the restaurant the next day to speak to a manager, left a message, never received a call back. Call back twice more the restaurant never answered their phone.
