Nobu is becoming way overpriced for what it offers. We've been coming here for some years, and their prices have been steadily increasing for each visit without incremental excellence in quality. So we have to say "Boooo" to Nobu. The $14 small salmon avocado roll is outrageous. You get 6 small bites on a plate. It's an amateur roll available at any sushi restaurant. For Nobu, we expect them to be much more creative. Salmon sashimi is $9 for 2 pieces. And the cut is not really that thick or big either. The plating for the $36 shrimp tempura does it an injustice. As with the crab tempura, the batter is delicate, but ruined by the ponzu, which floods the bottom of the bowl. The shrimp pieces are cushioned on a layer of lettuce and arugula, which does not protect it from the ponzu. As a result, half the tempura pieces are soggy, and very unpleasant. A terrible waste. The $38 Jidori chicken is good, and nicely paired with some kimchi bean sprouts. Some pieces were a bit dry this time, though. The $48 signature miso cod was well executed, as usual. But it was cold by the time we got it, and so the silky moist cod was a bit congealed. We also enjoyed the $60 tenderloin with miso ponzu and a nice shaving of truffles. But for that price, you're better off going to Capital Grille, Morton's or Maple & Ash. We finished with an affogato, which was very good. But very sweet. The worst part of this was the price -- $25 ! That's more than twice what many other high end restaurants charge, even when these charge you separately for a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a double espresso. So if we had ordered 2 affogatos, we would have been charged $50...! They are clearly way overpriced. And the level of cooking does not measure up to these prices. Service was also haphazard this time. We asked for lemon, and had to ask twice before we got 2 small wedges. And it was so noisy as the evening wore on, it was hard to have a conversation. Very disappointing.
