Since the opening of their acclaimed Restaurant Nicholas in 2000, Chef Nicholas Harary and his wife, Melissa, modernized the concept of fine dining. This mainstay of Red Bank garnered some of the industry’s highest praise, including 15 straight years as Zagat’s highest-rated restaurant in New Jersey, a 4-star review in the New York Times, and a position on several national “best restaurant” lists.

Now, with Barrel & Roost, the couple strips off the white tablecloths and serves up a bold new menu: made-from-scratch food that’s crazy-delicious, yet entirely accessible any night of the week. Set in a newly redesigned modern farmhouse interior, Barrel & Roost is just the place to enjoy Chef Driven Comfort Food with family, old friends, or a grab a drink at the bar for date night!

We’ve been to Nicholas Barrel and roost many times and also restaurant Nicholas several year back before it changed concept Today the service was incredibly poor and took almost 20-25 minutes to just take our food order Service beyond the delay in ordering was also very poor, spotty at best, and a inattentive Really disappointing

Fabulous holiday brunch. Packed but seamless, efficient, and warm service. Highlight was a butternut squash toast, but everything was delicious. We were the clean plate club. The desserts, especially that apple crisp, were fantastic.

First time at Barrel & Roost, overall experience was good. Sam (Samantha) our server was great, good personality and sense of humor was very pleasant and accommodating. Salad and side dish portions were huge and dinner portions were good. Food was very good, prices were not bad. Still trying to understand bread (4 dinner rolls) with butter and whipped ricotta for $7.00. Overall a good experience.

I’ve been dining since the original Nicholas opened and have dined at Barrel many times. Last night was the first night I was truly disappointed. First cocktail was full second cocktail was just over half full. Grilled oysters were barely warm. Nicholas Oysters (marinated)were amazing as always. Pasta with short rib was okay….. The winner always and forever is the burger. One thing we always order and it never ever disappoints.

Very loud environment!!! Decor lovely but does not absorb noise. Everyone talking loud so their dining companions can hear the converation. Not suitable for catch-up get togethers.
