Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Jason Peel

From the OpenTable editors: Chef Jason Peel is known nationally as the former executive chef for Roy’s Waikiki and beloved locally as a cooking instructor at the Culinary Institute of the Pacific. He opened his own restaurant Nami Kaze in 2022, quickly scoring a couple of James Beard Award nominations for izakaya-style small plates, both hot and cold, that star ingredients from favorite local farmers and fishermen. Be sure to try the hamachi rolls, plus the honey walnut shrimp stacked on waffles at brunch.

Came here to celebrate my birthday with my husband and parents. We didn’t realize they had a 3 course prefix menu only for Sundays, but it worked out after all and we had a wonderful meal! I enjoyed the mushroom gyoza and each of the starter we got were all very tasty! I had the people’s choice and my dad got the fish option. Portions were large and the service was awesome, all the staff were attentive but not intrusive.

We shared a delicious and unique meal beginning with Ulu Tots (amazing) and eggplant. The fish of the day, mongchong, was fresh and flavorful. Hapa Cattle Co short ribs were so perfectly prepared only a spoon was needed. We sat at the counter which may seem uncomfortable, but gave us a great view of the kitchen. We will be back!

Was looking forward to their brunch menu but sadly that has ended. Food was good just not what I was looking forward too.

We dined here a couple of years ago and I would say it was a solid 4 star experience. However, after our recent experience I would have to drop it to a 3 star. Some of the food was kind of bland tasting.

They always have a delish menu on deck. Love coming monthly to check out what’s new. Their drink menu always wows me as well. Such quality ingredients are used and their service is top notch. Sit at the bar top or sushi counter to be near the action with a date.

This was my second visit for lunch...food was excellent. I loved the combinations of each dish. It's a take on classic local food with a nice blend of other seasonings to round off the dish. Nice job Chef!

I love chiso so the Chu Hi Sai went well with the Amber-jacked sushi roll! Such fresh ingredients and friendly, knowledgeable service. It's one of my favorite places in Honolulu!

Had an amazing lunch at Nami Kaze. We had the prefix menu for April. Each section had options to meet most people's taste and dietary needs. The amuse (mushroom gyoza) and dessert were fixed. But the starter and entree had several options to choose from. For the starter i had roasted vegetables and my entre was fried ginger chicken, grandma's potato salad, zucchini namasu, and fresh ahi poke. It was delicious. All that for $45. Great service, our server was professional, friendly, and knew his menu items. Can't wait to eat here again.
