Back after more than a two year closure following the George IV Bridge in late 2021, Merchants has undergone a full refurbishment. Merchants serves Scottish cuisine in one of the most bustling areas of Edinburgh. Braised shin of beef, haggis and seared seabass are some of the dishes on an ever-changing menu, and the restaurant is happy to try and cater for any specific dietary requirements. Situated at 17 Merchant Street, Merchants Restaurant is proud to use fresh, locally sourced produce in its dishes. Historic Edinburgh Castle is a nine-minute journey on foot and Greyfriars Kirkyard a mere two minutes walk.

This was one of the best meals we have ever had. The steak medallions dinner was so tasty and the various pudding we shared were brilliant too. It was great value for money. We would 100% recommend this place to anyone who asks.

Fantastic food, great service. From the Haggis Spring roll to the Chocolate pave each course was superb. Decent and well priced wine list too. A great date night for my wife and I.

We had a great experience! Logan took excellent care of us and was very enthusiastic about recommendations when asked. The food and drinks were amazing! There were six of us and the seating was comfortable and the ambience at night was wonderful. Highly recommend!

A fabulous evening from start to finish, Kirsty and her team were so attentive. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Can’t recommend Merchants enough. The best Cranachan ever . We will be back

Very good food and quality for value (set menu on Thursday); service was quick and friendly ; 2 flats: no bread left when asked to the staff, the wine was horrendous (tried the South African and French) => the restaurant would win a lot to have some good quality for value wines on the menu
