Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Makana Lani offers a unique dining experience with standout Hawaiian and local dishes like "kalua pig benedict" and "coconut French toast." The "prime rib" impresses many, as does the attentive service. While some find the buffet selections and pricing underwhelming, the restaurant excels in offering warm crab legs and fresh seafood like sashimi and poke.

Service was top notch. Wish they had more choices for the price. But overall I’ll still recommend. I’m a fan of the fish tank.

I was very disappointed with both the food and service. Took my husband there for his birthday at 1130 for brunch they're was not much food and the quality was not that great either. Very few selections for $68 per person. There was only the hostess and one guy working who waited the tables and bussed tables and sliced the prime rib. The crab legs were small with not much meat on them and was always almost empty.

We went for the Thanksgiving Day brunch. Food was delicious! I I especially like the fact that they serve the crab legs steamed. The seafood selection was fabulous. Sashimi was super fresh and so yummy as were all of the different poke dishes.

Haven’t been here in a while. But still the best place for crab legs since they’re warmed! The Tako poke is some of the best I’ve ever had. Prime rib was also delicious. So tender and flavorful.

My grandma took me, my mother, my sister, and her boyfriend there to celebrate our graduation. It was very nice. Most of the food ( excluding some of the pastries and the green tea ice cream) was good. The prime ribbon, shrimp, and watermelon was excellent.

Overall, nice setup and good food. Three major things stuck out tho: 1. Availability. They were not prepared for people eating. There was butterfish on the line but before even half our party could have a piece (yes one piece), it was gone. Others that came in after had none either. Then the sashimi ran out. That’s a basic. Yet it took them almost 20 minutes to come out. For the prime rib, the hostess was the carver as well. She gave slices thinner than what you get in a roast beef sandwich in Safeway. When asked to do thicker, she made like she was going to cut more but then moved the knife back to a razor thin cut. Then they ran out and it again it took almost 20 minutes. Come on now. At most there were 25 people in the restaurant and our party was half that. They are not prepared. 2. Knowledge. It took three people and two runs to the back to get our bill on their counter paid. Not sure how they train but need more. It’s not an elaborate system. She didn’t even know how to direct us back to the parking lot after dinner! 3. False Advertising. We picked the restaurant based on the ASB debit card - focused on locals eating out local. We also knew there was a Kamaaina discount. The asb website says “allowed” discounts. If the restaurant is “allowing” Kamaaina to have a discount AND are participating in an eat local campaign, you should either post it’s one or the other, or honor both like the rest of the ASB merchants do. Don’t hide behind wording when the manager didn’t even know about the discount (with a sign posted on door). Overall, food ok, table service was great. The rest above - think twice before you go. The end interaction with the manager kinda ruined the whole thing and left you feeling ripped off, keeping in mind we dropped over $800 for dinner.
