We enjoyed the ambience but that was about it. Had a reservation and waited about 10 minutes to get sat.. not terrible. Then, once at our table, it took 30 minutes to even get water, that we had to ask for from a flagged down waiter. Finally got to order and our food did come out quickly but only because they realized we’d been waiting so long.. other tables around us were waiting to be served. Not a super busy night either around 8pm so we were wondering what the wait was about…I ordered the carbonara, which was incredibly salty, and my spouse ordered the braised pork gnocchi. That was good but not great. Staff seemed to be disorganized and food was just ok…

A friend spoke highly of Madrina so I made a New Year’s Eve reservation for four. A white table cloth indicates to me a classy restaurant. There were no tablecloths. Our server explained that the vibe at Madrina was the 1950s. The music playing through the sound system was classic rock, not Frank or Dean. You could barely hear the music though because it was loud. I had the Mayfair salad specifically to try the dressing because the owner bought the rights to the dressing from the old Mayfair Hotel in Downtown St Louis. (I could have those details a little wrong.) I’ve had better Mayfair dressing at Failoni’s on Manchester. I also had the Veal Parmesan which was very good. Madrina got a Wine Spectator Magazine award for their wine list. We purchased two bottles of wine for four people. One was $70 and the other was $74. That’s pricey. One thing my friend pointed out was that they continually refill your water glass. He was sure right about that! My husband and I spent $200 and we didn’t have an appetizer, shared the salad, he had pasta, I had veal, there was one dessert and the wine. Seems a tad high.

I will start by noting the entrees and drinks were amazing! As a table, we ordered many of the pasta dishes, and enjoyed them all. However, the service was more than slow! Took 3 hours for a dinner with appetizers and entrees. The waiter forgot to put in our appetizer order until everyone finished salads and the entrees already came out. When it finally came out, the arancini had undercooked rice inside. It also took over 30 minutes for single drinks to come out from the bar. The waiter then put the check on the table, without asking if we wanted to split and with a large group (6 people) tip of 20%. He brought out the espresso martini flight, which I have to admit, it was pretty and tasty (vanilla chai was the group favorite). After waiting another 30 minutes, the waiter finally picked up the check for payment. Overall, would highly recommend any of the pastas and entrees, and the cocktails were delectable, but service on NYE could have been more inviting and attentive.

Amazing elevated Italian! Everything was so yummy with great portions. Definitely on the expensive side but perfect for a nice date night or special occasion. We will absolutely be back!
