   We have loved this place ever since we had a fabulous Thanksgiving dinner there two years ago, and went back to Calistoga specifically to eat there. High expectations often lead to disappointing results, so does bad service. We anticipated the food would be excellent…it was pretty good. Ambiance, noise all as one would expect in a small environment. No issues. Our server was affable and informative about the menu. And that’s where good service ended. Drinks arrived after a bit of a wait. Everyone is anxious for things to get going once seated in a restaurant, so get ‘em a drink and their anxious level will drop. Make ‘em wait and it’s a bad beginning. The bread course was great, so much so we asked for seconds which took forever to arrive, and was of little interest as the starters had been served. Nicely they cleared our table of small plates and silverware, promising us fresh for the next course. The next course that took forever to arrive. Well over 5-6 minutes of sitting at an empty table without so much as a knife to use with the bread spread. Here is the unforgivable aspect of poor service. In a small seating environment, and a server with other customers nearby, thus in the vicinity we were never able to get her attention to express our growing impatience. A split second of eye contact so as to express and have recognized our consternation would have done much to relive our growing disillusionment. Never happened. Eventually the food did arrive, although one of the items ordered was completely overlooked, not served, never mentioned. See above to learn how getting the server’s attention went. I had to leave ahead of my dining companions and as I exited our server was at the front door near the hostess stand gabbing with two other employees. Not a good look, and reeking of inattentive to customers. Lovina is a charming local spot deserving of patronage. We may go back, but with lowered expectations that might be met.

   Outstanding experience, from the menu to the staff to the food, everything was so intentional and relaxing. Not to mention the food was excellent! I’ll definitely be back!

   Absolutely delicious! Loved the polenta appetizer! Split the bolognese and halibut! Both fresh and yummy! Great service! Highly recommend!

   4th time eating here, excellent food and experience each time. Beautiful weather for dinner outside. The pasta and fish were perfectly cooked.

   Was recommended this restaurant by the innkeepers of a bed and breakfast we are staying and and it did not disappoint! The food was very good we had the Bolognese and the Beek cheek! The beef was very tender and had great flavor, the bolognese was also packed with flavor and didn’t make us feel heavy after like many pastas tend to do! The service was very attentive! It was my partners birthday and he was given a hand written bday card from staff along with a free wine cork! The value is a little on the pricey side but when we saw the amazing benefits and how well the owner take care of their staff ( living wage AND great benefits ) we ordered more just based on that!

   Food was phenomenal! Staff was superb. Highly highly recommend. We had beef cheeks and beef bolognese- would order them both in a heartbeat.

    The best experience ever! We drive up from San Jose to celebrate birthday. Food was absolutely delicious, service was on top. Definitely coming back.
