Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge," and to top it all off, “Alain Ducass

This was one of the best meals I've ever had! The food was spectacular and the ambience really terrific. Casual elegance says it all - a very comfortable yet very classy atmosphere. The portions were surprisingly much larger than the "normal" French restaurant - we even had leftovers! This was our first time dining at Le Yaca but it won't be our last!

Ever since Le Yaca was on Pocahontas Trail, we've been making a stop here whenever we're in the area. The food is above par and just..yum. However, this may have been the first time we sat for brunch, and on a 'holiday' weekend too. Not intended. We typically order from the lunch or preferably, the dinner menu. I personally love the duck and escargot. But for brunch, I soup of the day (some potato..thing) was quite delicious. Almost like chedder broccoli chowder. Without the cheddar. Or broccoli. So like chowder. Then had the fish of the day which was flounder. Not Flounder, just flounder. On top of some greens and probably leftover green peas and carrots and corn. Still good. Yes, still good. Dessert was also, yes, their dessert of the day, which was some type of apple...thingy. Was good. But after 12 slices of bread and 2 trays of butter, at that point, I'm just putting edible things in my mouth, moving my jaw around and swallowing. So, yea, food was great. Service was great. Did have to ask for a few things multiple times though, but I guess they were quite busy. Man oh man, but that bread and butter!!! If not for the flies buzzing around me on the patio, the gentle breeze and the shade of the tree and umbrella with the coffee, I could've sat there and just ate bread and butter the whole time and would've been content. Oh, but throw in some escargot and that bread and butter is risen and beyond!

Service was good but our server was also the bartender and so he was a little stretched and service suffered. Food was amazing! Perfectly cooked duck.

Lovely lunch for three with outstanding server, Ming. Enjoyed salad, crab cake and apple tarte. Happy it’s on lunch menu and not just dinner. Lucky to have such a special restaurant in our back yard.
