With a dazzling dining gallery featuring 40’ glass ceilings, this one-of-a-kind brasserie is built in the tradition of the Belle Epoque, inspired by elegant and ornamental Art Nouveau style. The menu features French classics and timeless bistro favorites, with a focus on prime cuts and an in-house meat program. In addition to an extensive wine list and classic cocktails, La Grande Boucherie also features an inspired menu of absinthe-driven signature drinks.

The hostess was rude and despite checking in early for our reservation she made us wait and told us to come back in 10 minutes, but she did not alert the other host of this change. When we returned the original hostess was gone and the other host was confused and looked annoyed that we were waiting on the side even though it was our reservation time. Furthermore, he sat us in an extremely hot and uncomfortable corner where the staff seemingly forgot about us. When we did order and get our food, the food was extremely underwhelming. Quite frankly it was not even remotely worth the price. It was very salty and yet flavorless. Finally, the wait times were ridiculous. We understand it’s the busy season but 2 appetizers and 3 fairly easy entrees do not take more than an hour to bring out. Truly disappointed by our experience here.

Will start by saying it is very beautiful. Aside from that it is crowded, noisy, and very tight no matter where you sit. Steaks were charred on the outside and service staff didn’t check in enough to give any feedback or see how food turned out. Would not visit.

I thought this was… fine. Not great. There was a line waiting out front even for those with reservations, and the hostess frequently seemed genuinely confused when trying to find reservations. Our server was not helpful or friendly. He did not greet us but only said “do you want drinks?” Later he came back to say “are you ready to order?” And that was about the extent of our interactions with him. Runners do all the food. He didn’t check to see how we were doing or top off drinks. After we paid and I completed the receipt, he went to take it out of my hand before I even set it on the table. It felt like he was more interested in seeing if he got a good tip rather than actually worrying about providing service during the meal. The appetizers we had were phenomenal, a real bright point on the night. The French onion soup and lobster bisque were excellent. However both entrees (duck and bean casserole) were dry and lacking seasoning/flavor. It would have been fine for a restaurant half the price but not one like this in NYC. The mixed drinks were pretty good as well. However, I ordered a beer and it came with a full half of the glass as head/foam. I had to send it back to get a proper pour (the second bartender did a perfect pour so I guess it depends on who you get). Overall this left us feeling very mixed. There were high points but also a lot of disappointment. We won’t ever be back. There are so many better places in midtown to eat, especially for special occasions.

Overall, a disappointing experience. We arrived slightly before our reservation and the hosts got us sat right away. Several minutes after we were sat, a young woman comes over and asks us if we prefer still or sparkling water and 5-10 minutes later we finally got our water. We perused the menu, still unsure of where our server was. Probably close to 20 minutes after we were sat did our server finally come over (we had to flag another woman down to find out where our server was). We ordered the beef tartare and the Boucherie burger. Both my sister and I were pleasantly impressed by the tartare and quicky worked through the large portion. However, the burger did not live up to the expectations. It was over-seared on the outside and under cooked in the center. The bun was soggy from the tomatoes, onions, and Brie. Two bites and a few fries later, we decided we were finished with the burger. We asked for the bill and were even more surprised when we discovered that we were charged $20 for still water?? Neither the server or lady who initially got us water mentioned that the water was $10/bottle. We wouldn’t have ordered a second bottle. Just felt weird about the hidden charges but silently paid it and moved on with our evening. Would not recommend this restaurant to friends and would not come back. The restaurant interior was beautiful though!! The Christmas ambience is what initially drew us to La Grande Boucherie but I am saddened that the food and experience didn’t live up to the hype.
