Kellari Taverna is located in the heart of New York City, three blocks from Grand Central Station, Times Square and the Theater District. The dining room décor evokes a subterranean wine cellar designed with contemporary elegance. Kellari features the traditional Greek taverna specialties, such as our signature grilled whole fish, prime lamb chops and chicken meats, and an eclectic selection of contemporary Hellenic savory appetizers ("mezedes") created by our Executive Chef. The Kellari dessert menu includes innovative specialties such as warm sokolata with goat milk vanilla ice cream as as well as traditional favorites such as Baklava and bougatsa. Kellari Taverna offers an extensive international wine list featuring a large selection of Greek wines.

    I have dined here several times and the food is always exceptional. We wanted a salad that wasn’t on the menu and we asked our server to ask the kitchen if they would make it for us and they did. The service is outstanding and the evening didn’t disappoint.

    Took awhile for our food, even asked server to make sure we were served quickly because we had a show to catch. Made a mistake on the kids food order. Ambience is nice, prices average.

    Service: terrible. We arrived at 7, our orders were taken at 815, our food came around 9, and our check didn’t arrive till 11. Constantly had to beg for service (to get menus, drinks, things cleared from the table, etc). If I hadn’t gone to the maitre d to ask for our order to be taken we would still be sitting there. Forget about getting a drink at the bar, it’ll take 20 minutes to place your order; they only have one guy working. Food: mixed. I’ve been here twice before and it’s normally very good. But my meal was cold, and the cocktails we had were really not good (it’s hard to ruin an old fashioned, but they did) Ambience: it’s a really pretty restaurant, and decorated very nicely for the holidays. It also normally has a nice buzz. But this was chaos, it was so jam packed at the front (where we were waiting for our table) it was like being on the subway at rush hour. The staff were running around like crazy, in a bad way, they were all super stressed and it wasn’t pleasant (for them or us!). Bathrooms were a mess, and I could tell they weren’t cleaned or tidied in the FOUR HOURS we were there. Overall this is a shame. We’ve had really good experiences on previous visits. But they can’t cope with the crowds anymore, it seems.

    We came for the pre theater menu. 3 courses for a fixed price and the selection was great. The service, the ambiance , the food...all top notch. Don't fall for the tourist traps, come here instead. You won't be sorry!
