Contrary to popular belief, JJ's Restaurant is not named for popular owner Jimmy Frantzé. In 1985, Jimmy purchased JJ Malane's from his former business partner and the saloon's namesake. Malane's went away, but JJ's remained, and a West Plaza fine dining icon was born. Jimmy invested his enthusiasm and passion for exceptional contemporary American food, steaks and wine to build one of the finest restaurants in Kansas City just a block west of the Country Club Plaza. He helped create an environment that attracted and kept one of the most professional staffs in the region. He inspires so much loyalty that when the new JJ's reopened 18 months after a 2013 fateful fire, almost all of his staff re-joined him.

                  We’ve eaten at JJs many times over the past 35 years. Tonight it was the noisiest it’s ever been. Also, they’ve raised their prices and no longer allow you to pick from all their side dishes for your side with your main entree. It’s still the best steak in KC.

                  Meghan (with an H) was absolutely amazing, and so was Kennedy. Great food and experience. Our filets were some of the best we've ever had. Only one suggestion, work on the expresso martini, please.

                  Fun night with our adult kids during holiday!! We come frequently and love the vibe! The staff is very helpful and the food is delicious!! Would highly recommend!!

                  Everyone had something different and all were satisfied. They allowed some side dish substitutions and the wine list was one of, if not, the best in the city. We went on a Tuesday evening and didn’t have to enjoy a busy crowd. Highly recommend the tuna. Bon appétit.
