About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Good for business meals
  • Lively
Located in the heart of Gramercy in the restored Assembly Hall of the landmarked United Charities Building, Hawksmoor is a steak restaurant that celebrates all-natural, pasture-reared, and traditionally dry-aged beef. Our beef is seasoned simply with sea salt and cooked over live-fire charcoal. Our seafood is locally and sustainably sourced from northeastern waters and we use small-farm produce whenever possible. On Sunday afternoons Hawksmoor keeps with the tried-and-true British tradition and features a Sunday Roast.

Completing our offerings are award-winning cocktails, including New York City's coldest martini, and a carefully curated wine selection. The restaurant houses 150 in the dining room and 35 in the bar area. There are also two private dining rooms that can hold 12 people and serve exclusive, family-style menus.

  • Sunday Roast

    Multiple dates available
Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

Mixed bag! The place is beautiful, food was good, service mediocre. Started with steak tartar since our drink order was delayed. It was fresh and good but with a bit too much cheese. Drinks arrive incomplete no stir now straws, probably since the expediter was covering for the server. Sunday roast took too long to arrive, but it was good has expected, the gravy however was disappointing lack of depth. Desert was delicious, additionally they offer us a second one since we're celebrating our 15th Anniversary, that was a very nice and unexpected gesture. Service was very distant and unfriendly with lack of genuine care. This was not confined to a single employee but likely the culture of the place. Employees seamed friendly with each other but very cold with customers. During lunch we interacted with about 7 employees: a receptionist, a hostess, 4 servers, an expediter and a runner. I can honestly say only the hostess and our closing waiter simply smiled at us. Can someone please tell the staff smile is part of the uniform? Overall, I don't know if I would return, I would have liked to try the steaks during dinner time. I know one experience does not define a place but unfortunately other customers might not be so understanding. After 30 years in the restaurant business in New York City I can honestly say with confidence, that you can find a much better steakhouse experience than the one we had at Hawksmoor.

Booked the Sunday roast. Incredible presentation and a pitch perfect English Sunday roast. The beef was prepared and presented perfectly for a great Sunday roast is so much more than that and all the elements came together in this presentation to make one of the best roast dinners I’ve ever had. the roast potatoes, Yorkshire, pudding and vegetable accompaniments were all perfect and the roasted garlic and nice addition to the plate. The gravy was rich and complex we paired our lunch with a beautiful Cabernet from Italy and enjoyed sticky, toffee pudding and raspberry Pavlova for desert. Just incredible.

Fantastic birthday dinner at this steakhouse I've wanted to try for some time. I would've expected to be our 34oz steak for two to be slightly bigger, but overall, for a steakhouse the menu strikes a good balance between the old stand-bys and offering a thoughtful mix of twists on classics and good variety.
