Excellent menu and great value for a resort. The manta ray viewing area was a short walk away

Nice view and kind staff but the kitchen was slower than molasses and the food is awful. Burger is worse than a McDonald’s burger, the shashimi was so bad I spit it into my napkin. The fish tacos were astounding. I’m hoping the big renovation Mauna Kea is doing also includes an overhaul of the food because management is clearly not checking it.

We were pleasantly surprised that the Hau Tree had happy hour from 5-7 during the massive renovations that are currently happening to the hotel. This by far is are favorite resort to eat and love the beach here. You can see the Manta Rays at night. We had Brussels sprouts and cheeseburgers. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset as well.

The best part of the Hau Tree is a tie between the location and the staff. Each of the servers we had during our stay were so gracious and welcoming. The location next to the Kauna’oa beach is perfect. The food comes quickly and is consistently prepared. Favorite dishes were the Poke bowl and Cobb Salad. You can never go wrong with the daily catch dishes.

Was an awesome viewing from the restaurant with family, we made the sunset. Food was disappointing, order was messed up and never was able to to fix the order in time to enjoy. Very friendly staff and can’t say enough about the location.

We made reservations for our final night on the island, choosing to try the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel after staying next door at the Westin. While we usually prefer the Mauna Lani area, enjoying meals at CanoeHouse and the laid-back vibe at Lava Lava Beach Club, we decided to check out Hau Tree for its beachfront dining. The view from Hau Tree is stunning, and the service was excellent. I was, however, surprised by the number of available beachfront tables, yet we were seated toward the back. If you arrive before 7 p.m., their happy hour is a great value for appetizers and cocktails. We chose the fish of the day, which was excellent, though a bit steep at $50. Overall, it was a very good dining experience, with quality food and service, especially if you’re looking for a beachfront setting. I’d rate it above Lava Lava Beach Club in terms of food quality, though the drinks were comparable.

Right on the beach. Great food and drinks-fries and fish tacos were especially good. Service was friendly and attentive. Great explanation! Try the ice cream sandwiches!
