A MEMORABLE MEAL!
We have visited Golden Bear Station several times, and last night might have been our best experience ever. The food is always spectacular and elevated, but last night, we chose two dishes that were also fun to eat!
A deconstructed Caesar-type salad that resembled an elegant flower of leafy, red romaine, topped with layered "petals" of thinly sliced toasted bread, and showered with a grating of parmesan, to be consumed with our hands like tacos. I know, right? I'm not sure how to explain, but it was spectacular, and the dressing was the best Caesar dressing I've ever had.
This was followed by a clam dish that is a carry-over from the Animo concept. A small bowl piled high with fresh steamed clams. Each clam container had a dollop of aioli and was stuffed with a chorizo mix, served with a sauce on the side (hard to describe flavors here - was amazing!) The kitchen puts a tremendous amount of work into the construction of this dish. We were instructed to take each clam by hand, dip it in the sauce and enjoy! At the bottom of the bowl was a broth (with lots of butter, we think), that we soaked up with the toasted bread that accompanied the dish. Grateful for our server's helpful instructions and the hot hand towels that Heidi brought to the table so we could clean-up.
We also enjoyed some of the freshest oysters we ever had and the Caccio e pepe.
We were a party of two, and shared the meal, but really, it was enough for 3 - 4 people (if 4, maybe one more dish). In that regard, if shared, the per person price is a tremendous value given the quality of food and service.
We found a delightful Chardonnay (Rivers Marie) under $100.00, that was served at the perfect temperature.
Service was attentive, professional and friendly.
Highly recommend!
