General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream. Somehow these two halves make perfect sense, and complement each other in a seamless conversation, where neither wins the argument, but you really do have to see it! See you soon!

A very calm atmosphere despite the restaurant being oh so busy; the staff was pleasant, engaging and attentive. So impressive. The bread basket was exceptional, nowhere have we had a better bread, the variety of textures and flavours was so good. The staff answered our questions, the pastry on the delicious tongue and tail pie was beautiful and the server explained how it was done. We had no room for dessert but we will happily come back and next time leave room for sweets! A perfect night out!

Wow, what an amazing experience my second time back. The service is a highlight, the team really seems to work together to provide a 5 start experience. The sine selection is impressive. Every item we ordered was better than expected but the highlights where certainly the Bluefin Crudo and the Fries. The Crudo was heightened with crunchy cheese which not only provided flavor but also a texture that was unexpected. The fries with the tallow mayo were also unique, the center is almost like a mashed potato while the outside is crispy and salty with a light malt vinegar, not sure how to make these any better other than with a great cocktail. We frequent Jen's restaurants at least twice a month, we regularly have dinner at Le Swan and are heading to Grey Garden on Wednesday, I have to say that this may be a highlight of hers. Enjoy with Peace and Love! you will not regret it.

Our server was incredible, attentive, lighthearted. The restaurant itself is exceptionally beautiful. I was so impressed with the level of detail and the vibe. It's really gorgeous. Food was 10/10. The oysters, the trifle, the wedge salad. Everything was so good. Already excited for my next meal there.

Let's talk about this in categories! The decor/ambiance/vibes: it's so visually stunning inside, with an immense attention to all the little details that overall elevate the whole place. The playlist was great, the lighting was perfect, and it seemed like every table was fantastic (as opposed to some being less attractive in some restaurants). The service: the service was right on point with what I expect from the teams at Jen Agg's restaurants. The service was friendly, helpful, and timely on things like water glass refills, inquiring if we wanted additional drinks after finishing our first round, as well as timing our courses so we didn't feel rushed but it didn't feel like we were waiting forever for our next dishes. The food: we had the popcorn mussels and oysters which were breaded to perfection with a very gentle and much enjoyed heat at the end of the bite, not sure if it was in the batter or the sauce but it made them memorable. The lamb was impressive, with beautifully bright minty flavours in the accompanying sauce. Next time, I'd like to try more of the raw bar menu as we skipped that this time around. We finished off with the banoffee pie and the butterscotch pudding. Both were incredible, but an extra special shout out to the butterscotch pudding, in the little can packaging with the cookies you could dip in it that gave you a whole new flavour profile when combined. Overall - I expected excellence, and GP delivered. It's much larger than its sister establishments, but still feels cozy with the way the space is divided up. Something else I think is worth pointing out as well was I was impressed to see how much pricing variety there was on the menu. You could choose to have a more expensive dinner out, or a more average priced dinner out, depending on what you ordered which was a nice surprise. It makes this experience accessible to a larger audience. Whaddya waiting for, get over to GP!
