Built in 1927, Fig313 stands today as an original historical landmark of San Clemente, with a history that is meant to be shared with its seaside community. Carefully constructed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style, distinctive design features include red-tile roofs, white stucco walls, hand-crafted windows and arches, painted tiles, and open-air courtyards.

Originally owned for the first 33 years by John and Jeanette Riley, 313 El Camino Real was renowned as Riley’s Waffle and Coffee Shop. Legend has it that actor John Wayne frequented the restaurant for a hearty American breakfast along with many travelers from all over the world. From 1960 on, Riley’s Café would change ownership many times, evolving into a furniture store, French restaurant, tequila company, and catering business. In 2012, the current owners purchased the property and began renovations and restoration, while staying true to the integrity of the original style.

A good but I unfortunately way overpriced bistro like restaurant in San Clemente. The food was not remarkable though others apparently disagree. The prices were: $12 for bread; $54 for pasta; $16 for dessert. Go if this is your sort of thing.

We waited about 10 after being seated for our server to take our drink order. My $59 filet was literally one of the worst filets I’ve had and I couldn’t even get myself to eat the second half, it was so tough and flavorless. The server did not check back on us during our meal so I did not have the chance to provide feedback until he came to retrieve the plates. When he inquired if I wanted to take the other half of the filet home I said no because the filet I did not enjoy it he seemed unconcerned about my feedback. We used to really like Fig 313 but I think the good quality has gone down but their prices continue to increase. I don’t mind paying a premium for a premium cut, but wished I had spent my $59 at Rare Society instead for a premium cut, tender filet.

And firstly, our service was far below what we expected after reading the other reviews. He is very un attentive and didn’t check on our table, nearly enough. I had to ask for extra water, etc. numerous times we sat in the back outside, which was lovely but the inside area is very cramped. Most of the food was good… The homemade bread with far below our expectation in the vegetables aren’t worth ordering

Had a wonderful dinner at Fig. Love the patio with the twinkling lights and firepit. Fig old fashioned was delicious and the salmon was amazing. Friends had the filet and said it was fabulous. Great service, atmosphere, drinks, and food. A bit pricey but worth it for a special occasion.

We had a lovely Saturday dinner at Fig 313. It's not in the main shopping area of town, but San Clemente is so small, everything is close by. We started with the roasted bone marrow and the pear gorgonzola salad. Bone marrow was fantastic, the salad pretty standard. Good but nothing overly special. My husband had the short ribs which he said were good, and I had the pork carbonara which didn't sound fab on the menu (I just went with a gut feeling), but was really, really good. Pork was super tender, pasta and carbonara weren't cloying or heavy and the mushrooms and truffle were a lovely touch. I also had a Fig Mule, which was perfectly balanced. Overall a great experience.
