Elske means love in Danish, a nod to both David Posey’s Danish mother and the fact that the couple got engaged in Copenhagen. “Our travels in Denmark have really influenced us,” Chef Posey said. “We like that clean, simple aesthetic.” The dining room — all crisp lines, minimalist décor & soft lighting — is anchored by a wide open kitchen on one side & a small patio with a working fireplace on the other. Combined with the friendly service, it creates the impression that you’re eating in a supremely tasteful Scandinavian friend’s weekend home.

From the OpenTable editors: Sophisticated Scandinavian fare is on the menu at Elske, a MICHELIN-Starred charmer from wife-and-husband chefs Anna and David Posey. Dig into beautiful, seasonally changing plates—think smoked duck liver tart or smoked Fjord trout with beets—in the intimate dining room that channels a trendy Danish B&B or on the fireplace-decked courtyard with an herb garden.

Food is very fresh and creative. Authentic Scandinavian/Danish dishes, lamb with mustard seeds and oats was exquisite. Ordered two fish dishes they were excellent.

One of the most underwhelming food experiences I’ve ever had and laid over $550 for it. The sommelier should be fired. We didn’t finish three of ten five wines because they were so bad. We’ve eaten at over 20 Michelin awarded restaurants. How this place got one is baffling. The sturgeon was ok and the steak was a Steak, but everything else was heavy on the fermented tastes. Two wines of catalunya? One offensive Pinot Gris was particularly unpalatable and we sent it back. After that we gave up. They offered us a free dessert since it was clear we didn’t touch most of the food or wine, but even that was bad. $30 per glass of champagne we ordered. That was actually good but way overpriced and pours were weak Don’t ever eat here

We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing and thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything was excellent, relaxed atmosphere, great service and the place was booming which speaks for itself.

Very disappointed in the food. We mentioned to the server about a couple of dish. We heard rave reviews about the dinning experience certainly did not meet our expectations.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. I've been twice, and both times the food has been absolutely astonishing. Had the juice pairing on my second visit, which was excellent and exciting.

This was my first Michelin experience in Chicago and my first time having Scandinavian food! The ambiance and decor of the restaurant is great. The waiters were attentive and timely with courses. We did the tasting menu. However, I thought all the courses were all hit or miss. I loved the sturgeon and steak but felt like the tartare, croquettes, tuna, and duck liver were bland and mid. Obviously I knew Scandinavian flavors were more subtle but I didn’t expect so many things to be tasteless and mushy. The desserts were definitely the best things on the menu. They were amazing. I would probably go back for dessert but not the entire menu. Overall a good experience but still a little disappointing.

Last night at Elske was our favorite dining experience in Chicago so far. We moved here 1.5 years ago and have had some great meals, but this was truly above and beyond. The “smoked tea” blew our minds (they smoke vegetables for the broth above a live fire that you can see from the dining area) and reminded me of a rich greens-laden broth (think intense pot likker) braised with soy sauce. We’d also never had sturgeon, which was perfectly dense and flaky at the same time (halibut could never). Finally, don’t skip on dessert: the sunflower seed dish and the pear meringue were, again, mind-blowing texturally, were served at the perfect temperature, and were both challenging and comforting to eat. So, so good. Oh! I also ordered an NA martini which, unlike many mocktails, was super flavorful and so I wanted to drink it slowly, just like with a real cocktail.

Really wonderful meal, with exceptional service, in a beautiful space. Not cheap, but as a wise man has said, the scandal in fine dining is not how expensive good food is, it's how cheap bad food is. Keep up the great work!!

Roasted sturgeon was elite with the grapefruit, barley, and parsnip.
